Frustrating Series

Mets out-hit the Dodgers 31 to 28 over the three games and also walked more (7 - 4) while XBHs were even at 6 to 6
The Dodgers had a 2-1 edge in HRs and struck out less (17 - 24)

The obvious difference (aside from that whole 'Runs' thing) was LOBs: Mets = 26, Dodgers = 15

Not saying that we should have won all three, but all three were winnable and we certainly should have nabbed at least one or two.

I suppose it's easy to say that the Dodgers, for all their winning over the last two months, didn't really impress all that much. But we also missed their top two pitchers (although two of their recent losses were Kershaw starts) and Hanley was out for two games, Ethier missed one-plus, and no Kemp the whole series (not that he's been any good while in the lineup).

Not to pat myself on the back for this but I said that demoralizing Game 1 loss looked like the kind of game that would begin another bad stretch for this team. I think they know they're not capable of doing quite enough to put away teams anymore and it shows.

eh, I think this is the same type of game they've been playing all year. They're NOT capable of putting away teams because they don't quite have enough hitting. The scales certainly tilt for run scoring when the marginal hitters come up against a good team.

And losing perhaps your only great hitter and reliever doesn't help.

Re: Frustrating Series

The starters took some time in LA to seek out some high priced Hollywood lawyers. They're getting ready to sue for non-support.

Some of the starters should learn to bunt (Mejia) or make contact once in a while (Harvey*) before they go seeking legal action.

* Harvey has struck out in 12 of his last 17 ABs and is 1 for his last 23

oe: Oh, and Hefner's injury might ensure that he ends the season with ZERO hits
Since HR'ing in his 3rd major league AB, Hefner is 1 for 49

If they're going to lose, well... is it weird to say that, extended bedtime aside, I don't quite mind them losing like this?

Good pitching from most everyone that'll be part of our Metly future, encouraging signs on defense and offense from most everyone-- if not consistently-- who's potentially part of that same future, and a not-enough-depth loss to a better team that bumps us toward a better draft slot.

The team needs more offense. Need identified.

I felt like firing Willie Randolph after that last one.

Hey, with the game ending at 2 in the morning it would have been the perfect time.
And when I say perfect time I mean perfect so as to screw with the schedules of reporters back east.

Re: Frustrating Series

Seriously, though, the only difference between the two teams --- besides the age and shape of the rightfielders --- seemed to be that one was playing like a team in a pennant race and the other is playing like a team in development mode.

Eventually, the best thing you can do to help your players develop is play to win.
