9/1/13 NYM @ WAS

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Sep 01 2013 09:49 AM

Today is Father's Day in Australia.

Ohlendorf has decent numbers but concern was raised over a 10mph drop in the velocity of his fastball during his last start. Niese opposes.

Sunday nite start sure to compete well with Breaking Bad.

CBS radio is counting down the top 500 of all time this weekend. 104: Take on Me. 103: Baby Love. 102: Some Kind of Wonderful

Nice tie-in JCL to this IGT as the Nationals play "Take On Me" after "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." They put the lyrics on the screen and when they get to: "I'll be gone/In a day or two", the volume is lowered and the crowd sings along.

Eric Young tops this countdown:

Eric Young, Jr. - LF
Daniel Murphy - 2B
Josh Satin - 3B
Lucas Duda - 1B
Travis d'Arnaud - C
Juan Lagares - RF
Matt den Dekker - CF
Omar Quintanilla - SS
Jonathon Niese - LHP

And comin' in at No. 38...Vic Black.

That was a nice start. Back to back doubles by Young and Muffy. Duds line RBI single was hit pretty wickedly.

That (the 'Take On Me' thing) all started with Michael Morse using it as his walk-up music and then catching on with the stadium in general, IIRC.
I remember thinking back when he was still with the Nats that you can't be a 6' 5" power hitter and use for your walk-up music a song most associated with women doing aerobics classes in multi-colored leg-warmers back in the mid/late '80s.

A lot of hungry young Mets feasting on Ohlendorf's offering.

Seriously, the Mets line up looks like they emptied the rosters of Vegas and Binghamton.

Niese gives one back in a long second inning. Needs to get Hairston here (and does) so Ohlendorf will lead off next inning.

Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS

Nice play by Satin but what I'm noticing about him the most is that he has too many moving parts working at odds with each other in everything that he does. The throw could have been made from below or the side but he brings his arm all the way back and above into firing position.

Hey, I thought dennyDek was the best fielding outfielder in the whole wide world of sports. I think he's reached three already tonight that he couldn't hang on to.

Did anyone see the homer in the Skank game where the ball rode along the top of the wall? I've seen balls bounce off the top of the wall and go out (or come back in) but never ever saw a ball bounce for about 20 feet on the very top of the wall as it deflected off a glove and fans and stuff. Pretty amazin'.

Should have scored more. 13 hits with 6 of them for XBs should net you more than 5 runs.
Only partially cashing in on all those doubles in the early innings was as much to blame for the loss as was the pen or the fact that the Nats cashed in five of their six runs after two were out.

This fiasco was the first full 9 inning game that I had watched of the Mets this season. Last night's loss was frustrating, but I can't say I was surprised. I kept expecting them to cough it up and blow the lead at some point. The Mets succeeded at stringing me along for just about as long as they possibly could.

I am still a Mets fan, but they just don't captivate my attention like they once did. I guess I should be thankful for that, because if I watched the Mets on a regular basis I would most assuredly drink far more.
