9/1/13 NYM @ WAS

Today is Father's Day in Australia.

bmfc1 Sep 01 2013 10:03 AM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Nice tie-in JCL to this IGT as the Nationals play "Take On Me" after "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." They put the lyrics on the screen and when they get to: "I'll be gone/In a day or two", the volume is lowered and the crowd sings along.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Sep 01 2013 10:34 AM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
I did not know that. Obvs, I was hurting for relevance.
|
Edgy MD Sep 01 2013 01:41 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
What could be more relevant than a Nats crowd singing about being gone in a day or two? HAR!

I was hoping Vic Black would come out firing in 77 or 88 or something like that. 38 is a little Zambronic for me.

I salute the return of Loco Doodoo.

Frayed Knot Sep 01 2013 06:04 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
So Black, Lutz & Byrdak have been promoted - but Carson sent back down as the front office claims the Vegas bullpen is too thin right now.

themetfairy Sep 01 2013 06:14 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
RBIs by Murphy and Duda give the Mets a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
|
Zvon Sep 01 2013 06:21 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
That was a nice start. Back to back doubles by Young and Muffy. Duds line RBI single was hit pretty wickedly.

The pic I used for the kaboom above must be from the Expos very first game ever in 1969. I just noticed that now.

That (the 'Take On Me' thing) all started with Michael Morse using it as his walk-up music and then catching on with the stadium in general, IIRC. I remember thinking back when he was still with the Nats that you can't be a 6' 5" power hitter and use for your walk-up music a song most associated with women doing aerobics classes in multi-colored leg-warmers back in the mid/late '80s.

They're too polite to say the issue is that Carson sucks.

Rockin' Doc Sep 01 2013 06:45 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
A lot of hungry young Mets feasting on Ohlendorf's offering.
|
Zvon Sep 01 2013 06:52 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Murph has been showing surprising pop lately. A lot of deep drives, half of which are dropping (I'd like to think). Almost hits another gapper but that clown Harper got in the way.
|
Zvon Sep 01 2013 06:53 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Yikes, Satin bangs one off the CF wall. Ha, the ball confused Harper. He sucks.
|
Rockin' Doc Sep 01 2013 06:54 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Harper danced that Satin drive into a double. Come on Lucas.
|
Edgy MD Sep 01 2013 06:55 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Found a spot over Harper's head that he couldn't reach, but Rendon keeps us from scoring.
|
Zvon Sep 01 2013 07:04 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Nice play by Satin but what I'm noticing about him the most is that he has too many moving parts working at odds with each other in everything that he does. The throw could have been made from below or the side but he brings his arm all the way back and above into firing position.

Murphy vs Washington this season: .383/.413/.567 -- and that was before tonight where he's tacked on a single, double, and was robbed of a double.

Zvon Sep 01 2013 07:52 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Did anyone see the homer in the Skank game where the ball rode along the top of the wall? I've seen balls bounce off the top of the wall and go out (or come back in) but never ever saw a ball bounce for about 20 feet on the very top of the wall as it deflected off a glove and fans and stuff. Pretty amazin'.

Turns out he might have had a cramp, something with his leg that seems to be a small deal. But we'll see. I have to assume about a week ago Young was told not only that he has a 24/7 green light, but that he should most definitely steal second any and every chance he has.

It's adorable in a way, this ESPN announcer married-to-the-storyline thing. In another way, it's irritating, and totally inaccurate-- this would NOT save the Nats season.

I know it's just normal crowd behavior, but you should be prohibited from booing ball-and-strike calls completely-- under penalty of ejection-- if you're caught cheering a sacrifice bunt by Bryce Fucking Harper.

bmfc1 Sep 01 2013 09:20 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
They win the first two, get our hopes up for a sweep against a team of sons of bitches, we wait all day for the game, for over two and a half-hours things looked great... and then Rice and German piss it away. Dammit. After [u:12x4vnod]The Washington Post[/u:12x4vnod] called the Mets "eminently beatable", this would have been great.
|
Zvon Sep 01 2013 09:36 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
We still hurt the Nats. Might be only a dent but might end up being painful in retrospect. Yep, shoulda won this one, and it would have been sweet, but I'll take kicking em in the knee and running away. On the whole I love how the bats have been so alive. The pitching, it was bound to blow a gasket, but its this RUN SCORING that has me in a good mood.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 02 2013 06:26 AM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
|
Should have scored more. 13 hits with 6 of them for XBs should net you more than 5 runs. Only partially cashing in on all those doubles in the early innings was as much to blame for the loss as was the pen or the fact that the Nats cashed in five of their six runs after two were out.
|
Edgy MD Sep 02 2013 08:31 AM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
Not cashing in on doubles, and not cashing in on two-strike counts.

Rockin' Doc Sep 02 2013 06:47 PM Re: 9/1/13 NYM @ WAS |
This fiasco was the first full 9 inning game that I had watched of the Mets this season. Last night's loss was frustrating, but I can't say I was surprised. I kept expecting them to cough it up and blow the lead at some point. The Mets succeeded at stringing me along for just about as long as they possibly could.
