IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

The Mets take on nemesis Paul Maholm. The Braves face Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is his own worst enemy, as well as that of those who enjoy crisply played baseball games.

America flocking to Atlanta in time for 1:05 PM start after witnessing Mets on ESPN2 Sunday night and becoming completely hooked on them to the point where they need to see them every 14 or so hours.

Craig Kimbrel has three blown saves this year. Here's one.

Game on! Raining cats and dogs where I'm at. Looks fine in Atlanta. Satin with a 2 out double in the first is left to sway in the wind as Brown grounds out.

Muffy and these fly balls.

Dice K in trouble in the first. A bunt single and a line single puts Braves on the corners, no out.

So Matsuzaka takes like 45 or 55 seconds between each pitch? Not nearly long enough. The Mets would be better off if he never threw the ball.

Re: IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

Hard to imagine him still on the ball team a week from now.

Picturing him on the team at sunset isn't so rock solid. He's got the International and Eastern League playoffs on his side. Not much else.

Estimated end of game at this pace: 6:11 EDT -- a bit earlier if the Braves aren't required to hit in their half of the 9th.

Freddie Freeman - drafted in 2007 by the Braves in the 2nd round (78th overall) just one pick after the Mets chose RHP Scott Moviel
The 6' 9" Moviel topped out in the Florida State League and appears, at age 25, to be out of baseball after spending 2012 with Florence in the Frontier League.

The pace after three full innings brings the projected end of this game down to approximately 5:58 PM

Recker and Lutz need to go to baserunner's prison.

How about heads in asses being a symptom of teams that get no sleep?

7th. We could make this a game. Could we? Please? Score runs again!

Satin does not run forward. He runs side to side.

So far not a great Labor Day 2013.

Sadly, I think Dice-K's magic is gone. No one gets cut in September, but I don't know if they keep giving him starts.

Re: IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

ugh, ball eats up Satin at third=FAIL. And he went back on it instead of forward. Or maybe he went side to side. I used to play third. I'd be embarrassed if a ball ate me up like that.

What a messy mess.

I, for one, welcome our new Haranging overlords.

I guess these innings limits have to be a benefit all around the league to veteran pitchers on the fringes to get one last payday in September. Let's sign 'em all --- Laffey, Heilman, Sele... Fultz.

Re: IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

There have to have been various points in Tim McClelland's umpiring career where folks have said to him that his slow calls and low energy style is annoying to the players on both sides of the field, to both the live fans and the TV fans plus the broadcasters. But seeing as how nothing ever changes, his only possible response to these complaints has to be; "yeah, I don't give a shit".

Re: IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

Howie says the players don't mind him at all because he gives a vocal call that the players can hear and then makes the visual call for the fans.

Re: IGT 9/2/2013: NYM @ ATL -- Set Your Matsuclocka

His verbal calls may be quicker than his hand signals but, not only is that damning with faint praise, there have still been a number of batters today who are a step and a half towards 1st on what they thought was ball four only to have to pick up the bat again when they belatedly hear it's a strike.

Oh, I think they might cut him. If nothing else, it allows him to shop for work, or start training for 2014. Tells the other guys that consequences happen and stuff.
