IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

With a view towards the AL WC race, this series takes on a 'if we have to lose a series let it be this one' kind of flavor to it

Eric Young Jr., lf
Daniel Murphy, 2b
Zach Lutz, dh
Lucas Duda, 1b
Justin Turner, 3b
Juan Lagares, rf
Matt den Dekker, cf
Travis d'Arnaud, c
Omar Quintanilla, ss

Jonathon Niese, lhp

Michael Bourn, cf
Nick Swisher, 1b
Jason Kipnis, 2b
Carlos Santana, dh
Yan Gomes, c
Asdrubal Cabrera, ss
Ryan Raburn, lf
Mike Aviles, 3b
Drew Stubbs, rf

Corey Kluber, rhp

- Check out that hot Zack Lutz DH action!

- Kluber, a 27 y/o RHP, is in his 3rd ML season and is making his 20 start (plus 2 RPs) of the season for Cleveland with a pretty decent 7-5; 3.54; 1.12 line

- and Frank Francisco has been activated for the game!!! At this point he's been out so long that I can't remember what his original injury was.

And batting third. Such a great name for a player. But only if that player becomes great. Someday I wanna be able to say: batting third, the GREAT Zack Lutz!

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

Frank-Frank has been pitching in the minors for a while: 12 innings in 12 appearances across three different levels and his rehab time had probably run out.
I just wasn't sure they wanted to spend for the plane ticket in order to get him back, but it does give Terry one more arm out there and it gives FF a short time to showcase himself for next year. With, y'know, a different team.

I thought FF was not one of us anymore.

Frank Frank pitched a scoreless inning for the B-Mets last night in their ill fated game against Trenton.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

Young could have broken up that DP with the right slide. Any slide at all would have been nice.

Led off with a nice line single to center, from the left side. DP's are not great, Mr. Lutz.

Cleveland scores in quick order in the first. Bourn singles, steals second, Swisher doubles.
And now Duds is off the bag. Lucas, if you cant play first what are we gonna do with you? Ahh, bad call. He had the bag.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

This is bad. Niese is being crucified. His pitches don't seem too bad but they are just teeing off on him.
5-0, 1 out, 1st inning.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

This is horrible. Muffy error. They are sitting on that curve like they know its coming. Or that's all they are looking for.

Thank you. A rocket liner to Duds becomes a DP. Inning over.

Have I mentioned that my feelings for Swisher are very strong in the most negative way?

Three Ks to Kluber on 10 pitches? Nary a batter working a walk, or even a favorable count?

At least our suckage is efficient.

And then the early-in-count GiDPs, on both sides. Plus, Niese is working quickly and well since the hammering stopped.

I'm not kidding-- I'm actually half-appreciative of this, given the Matsuzakan alternatives.

So these are "the aggressive Mets", huh?

Maybe the Mets could try striking out for a change.
It's like they decided that too much contact hurts their ears.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

My explanation for this scoring, on both sides?

After that Tyrnablast, I'm going with "tonight's balls are juiced."

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

Turner using his at bats well. Drives one off the wall in deepest center/left. And,whew, Turner scores as Laggy lines a single to right.

We're back in this.

After that second Tyrnarun of the evening, I'm now leaning toward "paranormal activity by the lake."

Quick, let's trade Turner to the Indians while they think he's a power hitter!!

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

1) So who would have bet, back in the 1st inning, on Niese outlasting not only the Cleveland starter but the first three relievers as well?

2) Two more runs scored for Turner tonight making it three in the last game and a half and bringing his season total to ... nine.
Double figures is now within his grasp.

First two relievers, no less.

Then again, they can afford to be profligate, what with the fifteen (!) they're carrying.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

"Right-handers have found a pitch that Omar just won't lay off of."

It's kind of adorable how Keith thinks that opposing teams actually bother with a scouting report on Quintanilla.

But when Terry starts calling them to the mound, one by one, its not going to remind anyone of the March of the Gooden Soldiers.

Re: IGT 9/7/13 - Mets at Indians

I'd imagine Old Man Atchy is pretty conflicted about that Cabrera shot-- it more or less ends the game AND makes quite the black mark on his record, but on the other hand, it means that the ball is no longer in his yard.

Yo, they were doing that all night. There was a guy back there making faces and hand gestures most of the game. Only when the Mets were in the field, of course. I bet that's his kid. Yea, GJ, raising your kid to be an asshole like you.
