Expanded Roster

Vic Black and the Heart Attack expected to join the Mets Sunday as rosters expand. The roster is expected to otherwise remain unexpanded for the time being while Binghamton and Vegas (who haven't quite clinched) head to the playoffs. Florida State League PotY Dustin Lawley takes Matt den Dekker's slot with Vegas. Adam Rubin lists Binghamtonians Jeff Walters and Darin Gorski as fringe promotion candidates. As a supporter of Allan Dykstra, this is more than somewhat unsettling, and I will not sleep well tonight.

problem with the expanded rosters is that the guy has to be on the 40 man roster to be added...so a team would have to think twice about adding a guy to the 40 man roster if he's not one of the 40 guys that you intend to protect during the off-season (during the off season, 60 day DL guys have to be added back to the 40 man roster)... Jeff Walters: not currently on the 40 man roster; Darin Gorski: not currently on the 40 man roster; Allan Dykstra: not currently on the 40 man roster; http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/team/roster ... p?c_id=nym so if they don't intend on adding these guys in the off season, does it make sense to add them now? IMO, a guy not on the 40 man roster that stays off of the 40 man roster is less likely to be stolen by another team vs a guy that is added and then removed from the 40 man roster...

I'm familiar with their stati. And yes, I know that a guy has to be on the 40-man roster to be in the big leagues.

The problem with Dykstra at this point is that Terry is having enough trouble getting ABs for Duda & Satin, especially while they're trying to see as much Ike as possible over the next month. Wright's return? coupled with Flores trials at 2B (with Murphy to 1st on occasion?) makes things even more crowded. On the pitching front however, between the absence of Hefner & Harvey, Torres moving into the rotation, who knows about Dice-K, and the impending shut-down of Wheeler, they will find use for any and all pitchers they bring up. It would be nice if another catcher is found and I assume we'll see Tejada. Other than that I'm not sure how many position players we'll see.

I'm not really lobbying for Dykstra to get a McCallup, so much as I am disappointed that these other two guys are ahead of him on line, but I guess the team wants piles of pitching, and I understand why they would have greater utility in that regard.

I don't know how other teams match up vs the Mets, but the Mets always seem to have a ton of pitchers on the 40 man roster...right now they have 23 pitchers on the 40 man roster (yes, I know 3 of them technically aren't on the 40 man roster because they are on the 60 day DL) but still that seems like a lot of pitchers...I wonder how many of the current 43 guys will get dropped from the 40 man during the offseason, since several of them are mediocre AAAA type of pitchers/hitters...

Jack Mack & The Heart Attack a) have "& the" action going on; b) make the "& the" part something more than "& the something or other band" or "& the traditional plurals"; and c) dare to rhyme like crazy right there on the marquee. May Vic Black relack(s) us in the late innings ahead.
