Seaside Is Burning

After all of the recovery work to recover from Sandy, a massive fire has destroyed a major portion of Seaside Park. An incredibly sad scene.

It's pretty bad. Got a big area of boardwalk, shops and all. They were calling up fire co.'s from down here in EHT (Southern Jersey). I don't know if that has ever happened before.

Re: Seaside Is Burning

well, now i feel bad. as i was running htrough that section on labor day, all i could thing was how shitty the boardwalk was right there, what with all the uneven boards many of which were somewhat coming up. it was basically the only stretch of wooden boardwalk that wasn't replaced after sandy.

i guess they'll fix them now. sigh...

Re: Seaside Is Burning

Seeing the Funhouse drop into the ocean leaving behind a sad burning sign was surreal..

Re: Seaside Is Burning

Is it my conspiracy-theory-addled mind at work, or does it seem a little strange to have a fire a week after end-of-season, originating in one of the few boardwalk businesses that didn't receive extensive renovations/subsidies for same after Sandy?

Re: Seaside Is Burning

I just don't see how the fire spread so quickly over such a huge area. I know I'm missing something here, but I don't understand how it created so much damage.

Wind? Accelerant, like a flammable liquid? Both?

Re: Seaside Is Burning

Well, small wooden communities built on wooden piers are their own accelerants. This is all too often how seaside promenade/amusement piers come to their ends.

Re: Seaside Is Burning

it seems suspicious to me. very very much so. not the spread, though - its all tightly packed old wooden buildings on a windy day.

interstingly, because there was a firefighters convention down in wildwood, it seems most of the local firefighters were away.

...adding to the suspiciousness.

Heard on the radio this morning that they are now looking in to this as suspicious.

I was looking at it as suspicious starting about five minutes after I heard about it.

Re: Seaside Is Burning

They're calling it an accidental fire, due to faulty wiring made worse by Sandy.

Roadside corn, pork roll, Grilling things with charcoal
Striped bass, monkfish, fried shrimp in a chafing dish,
Vanilla-orange custard, footlong dogs with mustard,
Clams casino, boardwalk fries, fudgy wudgy, 'talian ice
Water taffy, Dippin' Dots, pump your fist for Jell-O shots,
Deeply Fried. Funnel Cake. WE DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BAKE!
