Out of no where comes Centeno.

If what Gary said about Matz and Harang being the way the Mets might go next season is true there is going to be a problem.

This gamelong personal-side-of-Met-memories thing is nice.

That's about it for this game on the nice front, though.

Well, okay. And Centeno got his first hit. So there's that, too.

It's a good thing the booth had Seinfeld yesterday and Gary retrospectives today, because there certainly haven't been many good things to talk about in either of these games.

Yup!
That was my guess too and I just looked it up to confirm.
600 and one third innings pitched as a Met.

Ha, I stumped the booth. They just came up with Sadecki and threw him aside.

I knows my Sadecki.

Brown, time to make a positive mark on this game.

Man, I missed that whole thing and had to follow it through GameDay. But a four-run ninth inning rally pulled off entirely by guys who spent some or most of the year at Las Vegas. That's some sweet cake.

Happy anniversary, Gary.

That ill-advised steal by den Dekker the previous inning which set up a run turned out to be a HUGE run.

Y'know what else was a bit kooky -- when Terry sent Recker in to PR I was thinking why not Quintanilla there (Tejada was already out of the game) and use Recker to PH later. But when Q did come up in the pitcher's slot it was in a spot where you'd want more contact and less of a chance of a GiDP.

As things turned out neither Q's bat nor Recker's (lack of) speed mattered in the end, but maybe it wasn't as goofy a move as it first seemed.

Re: IGT 9/18/2013: SFG @ NYM -- Harang-Centeno '14

I was thinking Wheeler.

Keith is sort of black 'n' white, in his reasoning, and hated den Dekker stealing. I thought there was a case. A sliver of gray if you will.

Basic Defensible Case
1) If they're going to give it to you, take it.

Strategic Basic Defensible Case
2) Stealing second keeps you out of the double play.

Half-Thought Out, Not Particularly Strong Case That in the End Turned Out to Nonetheless Be a Key
3) The eighth ain't the ninth. It's defensible to go for one there and get the rest the next inning.

Ill-Reasoned Case, That Probably Is More Relevant Than Any of the Above
4) Stealing is part of den Dekker's game, and he's trying to show what he can do, inning and score be damned.

My MLB.TV went all screwy a few innings in so I moved on. Came back in the 8th and thought they did me no favors by fixing whatever the problem was.
When Q came up as a pinch hitter I was just gonna close the game again. Then I felt might as well have tagged there on Qs pop to right, its not like anyones going to drive it in with a hit. And then Satin comes through. Classic baseball.

Re: IGT 9/18/2013: SFG @ NYM -- Harang-Centeno '14

Poor Ruben. Brown did the right thing by sliding there but his leg inexplcably came up high like he was breaking up a double play. Tejada's leg hooked it and it was a classic trip.

We're going to have to call up Hicks or Bixler or Sandoval or somebody (has Valdespin finished his sentence?) to finish the season. Fun fact, the Mets have had Russ Adams on their AAA roster, listing him as "Restricted" seemingly since like halfway through 2011 in Buffalo, according their website.

Nice first game, Juan. Didn't see or hear the game. But from the box score it looks like you got pinch-run for by Recker. That doesn't say a whole lot about your speed.

It was definitely a situation where if you're going to go you HAVE to make it and even a reasonably good throw there gets him.
As it was the error on the throw gave him 3rd and eventually the 1st run that probably would not have scored otherwise.

Lost in all the 9th inning heroics was the Four innings of scoreless/hitless (1 walk) relief by Torres, Aardsma & Black.
We've been on the short end of too many games where we get ahead early then seemingly sit on the lead only to later regret the missed opportunities to tack on against the usually softer part of the opponent's middle relief corps that it's nice to turn those tables every now and then.
