Phillie scores first on a sac fly to Laggy.

Guy looked out to me, but the ump had lousy position under any circumstances.

Replays remove all ambiguity. d'Arnaud tagged the guy.

I like the DP when the first baseman goes to first and then throws out the runner for the tag.

Phillies looking to come back by hitting backie-to-backie doubles to open the home sixth.

Mets up by three. Rain letting up some.

Another dubble, but Rollins doesn't score.

Quit polishing that hook and put it to use.

Groundout to Wright gets one run in and the other over from second to third.

No like this inning. Brown the tying run at the plate with a lot of kabooms on his record.

Very odd how Utley ran into the infield before making a dash for the plate.

Pop to shallow right gets the second out.

Nice, collegial half-hour or so on the radio tonight during the rain delay before 'FAN went to Shitty Non-Somers Studio Show, in which Gary Cohen dropped by, everyone reminisced about where they each were during the '73 stretch run, and Gary was forced to sing the Fordham alma mater, as part of a standing bet re: the Columbia-Fordham foo'ball game today.

I saw this play. How on earth could the ump even imagine the guy was safe?
Ooo, I did miss some kabooms didn't I. And the one from Murph, a big one. I think now that the games over I can watch it with Gary and crew. I'm sick of those Phillies guys. If a Philly hits a homer they scream like girls and when a Met hits one, they don't even raise their voice. I mean, it's happening, announce it with a lil bit of importance. lil bit? And the end of the low sentence describing the ball that leaves the park is laced with so much disgust. I can't stomach those guys any more. They used to be good.

Yeah, Kalas was fine. But he had to share the booth with Wheeler, who's always been awful. It's a mystery how he's been there so long, because nobody in Philadelphia can stand the guy.

Kalas had a problem with him too. I don't recall the details right now.

Re: IGT 9/21/2013 Mets @ Phillies Gee v. Cloyd

That play at the plate. The Phils had a different camera view, but to be fair they did broadcast SNYs feed for one of the replays. Gary and crew voiced proper dismay. The Phils guys were beaming. Ha. But, as I said, how could the ump have even calculated that he could have been safe (say, if he was blocked out). How could umps be soooo bad? Is this intentional?

Re: IGT 9/21/2013 Mets @ Phillies Gee v. Cloyd

It's not intentional. It seems to me a matter of positioning.

It seems to me that you don't know what the right position is until the guy slides. He might slide inside the catcher and he might slide outside. If it can become the standard for the first base ump to follow the play home, the home plate ump can position himself for the outside slide, and if the guy slides inside and he's screened, point to first base ump to ask for help.

That's brilliant. Have the first base ump get involved in those. How come they don't think of this stuff?
