IGT, 9/28, Old Milwaukee at New Amsterdam

Sep 28 2013 08:22 AM

Eric Young, Jr. trying to nail down the team's fourth stolen-base title, and the first by somebody not named "Reyes." Colorado gets a share in whatever glory reflects on the franchise. Rival Jean Segura is expected to return to the team today, but whether he'll feel up to stealing is an open question. I imagine if he gets a shot, he'll go for it. He's got all winter for the hammy to heal.

EYJ and Eric Young, Sr. would be the first father/son stolen base champs in... ever, I think.

Aaron Harang appears for the Mets in what is likely to be his last start for the team. Be sure and wish him well. Milwaukee counters with top prospect Jimmy Nelson, making his first start after two relief appearances.

David Wright appears likely to sit after jamming his thumb.

On "Ya Gotta Believe," Grant was solemn and never cracked a smile and nobody else did, and then they started wondering when it would end. He says that everybody smiled and laughed when McGraw stood up and yelled and grant did too.

MIght not have done what they did if it hadn't been for Mays. Consummate teammate apparently.

Very little contact with old teammates. Talked to Koosman a couple of times. Talked to "Stork Theodore" a couple of times.

Young may have more luck getting the stolen base title if they bench him at the start tomorrow and use him as a pinch runner.

Re: IGT, 9/28, Old Milwaukee at New Amsterdam

I was listening in my car when the opposing pitcher was walking the ballpark and just plain wild.
I was getting my scream ready, because I thought Recker would walk on four pitches and Q would stupidly swing at the first pitch. I had to use my scream on Recker. What was he thinking? That was just a dumb mistake.

Gotta' go. Wifey's calling.

Recker gets himself a single through the hole. Only the fourth hit on the afternoon. Sending up Q, possibly to bunt.

Betancourt bobbles and the Mets have two guys on. PINCH RUN FOR THE CATCHER!

44 SBs for him and Segura.
This might be a very good idea. Even if its kinda Reyeish. But he might need more than one at bats worth of SBs if Segura gets more. Have him pinch run early and stay in. Guarantees at least one, maybe 2 chances. 3 if he steals home.

8th? 2-1

I was a lil surprised Gary sounded so disgusted when he tried to think of players on the bench who can run. Or was that despair?

Notable to me is that the game is over at Shea or most any other park where the bleachers don't build up against the foul line behind third. Brown has a good chance to score then instead of barely making it into third.

Yes but the configuration that has elimnated virtually all foul territory in the outfield, and deflects shots down the line back toward the infield --- that's a near fundamental change in the game and I think a negative one.
