Matt Harvey Interview: He "Phoned" It In

Matt Harvey's Interview With Dan Patrick Got Real Awkward Real Fast

Mets phenom Matt Harvey was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show this morning, and he was not the ideal interview subject. Patrick wanted to talk about Harvey's elbow injury and the looming possibility of Tommy John surgery—you know, baseball stuff—but all Harvey wanted to do was be a pitchman for some dumb phone thing called Qualcomm. I mean, he really wanted [to] be a good pitchman.

Either Qualcomm is paying Harvey $10 billion to be their spokesman, or he just doesn't realize that "pitchman" and "shill" don't mean the same thing. This gives us a good idea for a new Jimmy Fallon bit, though: Matt Harvey stopping people on the street and explaining to them the wisdom of investing in gold.

Matt sure does say the word "obviously" a lot.

I have to say, this is absolutely douchey.

I bet Mark McGwire is kicking himself. He probably would have loved to have been able to use the "I'm here to talk about Qualcomm" line when he was testifying before Congress.

This is the downside of the Buck-and-Byrdie trade. We suddenly have a paucity of play-the-game-the-right-way cops.

Maybe that is part of the problem here, he likely now has "handlers", you know what Matt, be like fucking Jeter, do stupid car commercials, don't talk to the media in this way, only after games....be vanilla.

Careful Irish, that's how I got tagged with Jeets... ;)

Wright is a better example actually, got into some hot water for okaying a quickie on-the-spot TV spot for a charlatan several years back and has been much more judicial with his public image since...that ESPN "fashion" spread with Reyes not withstanding!

What've I been saying since this punk first arrived? Doooooooooooooooosh.

Hopefully this helps bring an end to corporations using dumb jocks to sell products.

better win a championship too, because if Harvey ducked the media the way Jeter does, it'd become a major thing.

Fuck Jeter. Be like Wright. Do ads in uniform for greasy faith healers that liberate you from drinking feces the rest of your life.

Matts a grouch in the morning. Sounded like he didn't even have his coffee yet. Obviously he has stock in Qualcomm.
Well, you can go to the bathroom and keep current score, but can you actually score a game on that thing?

Well, don't feel bad Matt. Obviously interviews from home are exhausting. All that sitting, holding the phone up (your handlers don't do that for you?) to your ear. Next time see if you can do one without opening your mouth.

Re: Matt Harvey Interview: He "Phoned" It In

Rubin tweets reason Harvey apologized for douchey behavior was because he was "being rude to media when fans could see/hear it," strongly implying our phenom is a phenomenal dick out of camera and microphone range.
