I Wuz Framed

Amazin' Avenue looks at Lord Buck vs. Vicomte D'Arnaud exclusively with regard to the nebulous but real virtue of pitch-framing, does a great job clearing up the ambiguity, and suggests (perhaps over-zealously) that we may gain as many as five wins on pitch-framing alone.

This framing stuff is fascinating. I need to read up some more on the stats.

Yeah, I try and get across that much of it may be pie in the sky, but it's five wins, not five WAR, as they're not comparing him to a theoretical replacement, but to John Buck himself.

Just the way d' is so quiet with his glove makes a big difference. Buck is moving his glove all over the place before the pitch. d' just puts his glove there and lets the ball find its way to him. If the pitch is executed correctly his glove barely moves.

It also explains a lot of the benefit to setting up at the bottom of the strikezone in the Pena style.
