Chipper's seen the Braves enough in the postseason to know not to pick them.

Re: Braves players boycotted Chipper Jones' pitch

The New York Post reported Monday that Braves players were not happy with Jones’ pregame prediction that the team would lose the NLDS.

OMFG, whiny indeed

Jealous that he actually won several pennants and a championship?

I don't know. I can kind of understand their feelings.

Deadspin says this is another case of the Fun Police. But I think it's the opposite. Instead of going along to get along and play blandly nice for the league, the team stood together and made a statement, even if it caused their lords and masters some embarrassment. The Mets could do well to take a lesson from them when it comes to the hatzz.

I myself would have probably gone along to get along, but I understand a merry band of brothers under duress thinking that if he wants to be treated as an honorary teammate, he should act like it.

Yeah, Chips can't go around being Mr. Braves First Pitch AND be predicting that they'll fall. One or the other.

It is kinda funny how the Braves have seemingly gotten themselves into so many "unwritten rules" type controversies lately but they happen whether or not Deadspin thinks its cool.

Keith and Tom Terrific seem to strike an okay balance between honest criticism and team-mascot. (Well, we tolerate it better, anyway.)

I have to say, I'm certainly not with Team Unwritten Rules on this one.

I don't know if it was clear from the article, but I boycotted Chipper's first pitch too.

Just so we're clear.

It seems to me describing the action is one thing. Going on the radio like you're Jimmy the Greek and predicting failure is another.

I fully understand a fuck-that-guy vibe in the clubhouse. They're trying to do get something done.

These former players who go right into broadcasting and are required to comment on, or analyze or call, the games of their former teams put themselves in a dreadful position. If they do their new job properly, they're betraying the organization and their former teammates. If they stay loyal, they're biased hacks and lose any credibility as journalists... you know, like Yankee announcers.

That being said, fuck Chipper.
