Breaking on the Instagram (of all places), but LaTroy Hawkins has apparently achieved minor hero status, according to American Airlines, after he and another dude subdued ("dude subdued"?) an unruly passenger on a flight to Chile.

Kudos on the title

NEW YORK -- New York Mets right-hander LaTroy Hawkins, headed on vacation to South America to go dove hunting, helped subdue and then escort a troublesome passenger off a plane after the Boeing 777-200 made an unscheduled landing in Peru, Hawkins indicated.

American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller confirmed two passengers on board Flight 945 from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Santiago, Chile, assisted flight attendants in escorting an "unruly" passenger from the plane.

The flight took off from Dallas at 9:45 p.m. CT Sunday and made the unscheduled stop in Lima, Peru, at 4 a.m. Monday, Miller said.

"They were noncompliant, unruly, which happens on occasion," Miller said about the passenger removed from the flight. "And when it does, sometimes we'll divert a flight. For the safety of everybody on board, it's much easier just to get that individual off the plane. And that's what we did and turned it over to local law enforcement, and then the flight continued on."

Hawkins, a pending free agent, wrote on Instagram: "Escorted him of the plane after we made a emergency landing in Peru to drop him off. Long nite with a crazy Passenger."

People shoot doves? Seems to me there might be something
more sporting to hunt.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer my heroes to release doves from ghetto rooftops rather than shoot them.

I think hawks probably prefer rodents.

There was a time when this meant construction workers beating up hippies.

Hey, I love doves as much as (more than!) the next guy, but let this not eclipse the fact that LaTroy stepped up and stood tall in a dangerous situation.

Better than hunting for Ivory.

I say Olay to Mr Hawkins for his ability to Safeguard the passengers. Not content to Coast on this career numbers, he was able to Dial it up, bringing a Zest to his South American trip. Next stop? Why, Irish Spring, of course.

Mrs. Hawkins didn't come on the trip, so I guess it was a case of Lava or Lever.
