Árbol de Béisbol

Mr. Met looks scary. And kinda hungry.

Yeah that thing's nice. And that artist is a real genius of design & baseball.

So many cool details. Who is the guy up top not in uniform, next to Bartman. Is that Bill James?

Only thing missing, I think, is any reference to Negro League ball.

Yes. I saw this yesterday and meant to post it. Thanks to Edgy for picking up my slack. I'm a big fan of Flip Flop Flyball. It's amazing what an Englishman living in Mexico can teach you about baseball. SPOILER: If you scroll down on that link, he actually lists everything in the image (don't look if you want to guess). He also explains why he didn't include the Negro Leagues.

Trying to make out the textual stuff on the limbs... is that the Mercury Mets logo next to Ichiro's hip?!

Bo's leg is there. He's breaking a bat over it.

Zvon Oct 30 2013 04:38 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
That's kool and very well done. But only 1 Met and it's not even a player? Booooooo!

Well, we got the Home Run Apple and the Mercury Mets symbol as well.

Holy Buck, that thing is great.

Ha, I didn't notice that.Excellent.

Edgy MD Oct 30 2013 06:18 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
Has nobody else read the inscription on the second branch down on the right?
|
Edgy MD Oct 30 2013 06:33 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
OK, continuing on the next branch...

Lots of Mets content in there... see? Love the music notes at the base of the tree too -- the first notes of "Take Me Out."

Yep, missed that too. Very kool. Whats Alex Trebek doing in between Roberto Clemente and Hank Aaron?
|
seawolf17 Oct 30 2013 06:57 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |

That's definitely Marvin Miller. And the "here" flag comes from one of the ballparks, but I don't know which. The only thing I can think of is the Cubs "W" flag, but that's obviously a "W" flag and not a "HERE" flag.

One of Bill Veeck's teams encouraged fans to dictate strategy with their signs. Hit & Run?; Bunt?; etc.
Pretty sure that's Pujols

How embarrassing to get buzzed on a top branch guy.
|
Zvon Oct 30 2013 09:02 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |

Yea, that's Harper. I will not confirm Carter. And I have no idea who else it could be. Now the guy said he drew that but he didn't draw it by hand, did he?
|
Frayed Knot Oct 30 2013 09:33 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
Anyone catch the Doc Ellis reference?

lmao. Hits:0. LSD Hits: 1

John Cougar Lunchbucket Oct 30 2013 09:38 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
Gotta be Harper and Carter. Yes on the Doc reference.
|
Mets Guy in Michigan Oct 30 2013 09:41 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
I think it's Robbie Alomar instead of Carter. Gotta have another Mets connection!
|
Edgy MD Oct 30 2013 10:01 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |

Which is what makes the Joe Carter designation dubious to me. If you look hard, you see, yeah, that's a figure of a person of color, but Carter's about five and a half shades darker than that, and wore a beard during his arm raising trip around the bases. Alomar would seem to have a stronger case, appearance-wise, but doesn't seem to me so iconic as to merit a spot on the tree. Neither does that pose seem to fit an iconic Alomar moment. He wasn't even on base for the Carter homer. Henderson and Molitor were. (And how's that for table setting? There's about 8,000 hits and a ton of walks right there.)

Zvon Oct 30 2013 10:13 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
Oh, he's working from bobbleheads. It least for Robbie. Don't know what hes got his arms up about in the photo.

Great research. Excellent. We have confirmation.

Wow, he even managed to get the Cleveland midges that attacked Joba Chamberlain in there.
|
G-Fafif Oct 30 2013 11:55 PM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
You guys realize the artist included an answer key, unless you're just guessing for fun.
|
Edgy MD Oct 31 2013 06:19 AM Re: Árbol de Béisbol |
I hadn't. No fun.

Space is limited, man. Look at it from a Yankee fan point of view. No DiMaggio, no Mantle, no Berra, no Casey, no Reggie, no Jeffrey Maier, no Jeter, no Torre, and no Rivera. Key figures all. Part of the broader story. But no room.

And some teams have no humanoid figures at all.
