Win With Vin

A post-postseason appreciation of Vin Scully, dovetailing with an awareness of how loving baseball flattens out demographic differences agewise. (From a site I'm writing for that celebrates getting older without necessarily getting old...or something like that.)

That was so good, Greg. Living back in SoCal for the last 13 years, most of the Met games for me start when I'm still at work, so over the years I've done my best to listen some at my desk, catch the last few innings at home after traffic, or try to ignore the world completely and record & watch the game without having found out the score. All of those suck in one way or the other. A constant has been Vin coming on at the dinner hour when the Met game was winding down. I'm kinda soft for the Dodgers, but even still, I rarely sit to watch a Dodger game. But when I've been home and the game was on, Vin was the soundtrack to the evening, and has been for many, many Long Beach summer nights. He's an icon and a treasure, and I hope his voice keeps filling my living room for, like, ever.

I felt that way about Harry Kalas. I still miss hearing him call Phillies games.
