He was a fixture here on the radio, Hey Dave Herman Play
us Some Rock 'n Roll. 77 years old, I hope he wasn't abusing
children for the last 60 years.

Re: The Old DJ's ... Where Are They Now?

This is from the article in today's Daily News:

“I find girls that age incredibly sexy, soft, and their innocence is also a huge turn-on for me,” investigators said the 77-year-old Airmont, Rockland County, resident unwittingly told investigators who set up the sting. “Age 6 is the perfect time to start her being loved that way.”

The host — who once received on-air visits from the likes of John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Who and the Eagles — planned to liquor up the little girl so she wouldn’t be nervous, prosecutors said.

He also promised not to hurt her, though he admitted he might have to be “forceful,” investigators said.

What a miserable bastard.

I should probably change the title and start another old
dj's thread.

Them that Ben Grimm reported that the Daily News reported that the investigators reported that Herman said.

Hopefully when they go through his belongings in his two residences
and get access to his electronics there will many more arrests.

I didn't mean to offend anyone by bringing up the topic.

All I knew about Dave Herman was his introduction for Elton John.

I never would have even noted the name if he didn't share it with the unsung hero of Superbowl III. That Dave Herman was the reason why the Jets won.

Unfortunately, it's not logical to think that someone of his age would be adopting this "lifestyle" just now.

As disturbing as that article is, the comments are "do not read this is you want to maintain faith in humanity" bad.

I absolutely thought the same thing and wondered if that's the reason he has this house in the Virgin Islands.

And then, how many people he did this to in their youth are now... it's just difficult to reconcile, mentally.

In no way whatsoever am I defending him - I have a daughter myself and can't even imagine what I would do to someone who attempted those things - but what MFS wrote above is really the key though isn't it? It's a sickness.

I understand though that the difference between pedophilia and most other mental illnesses is that Pedophiles have the ability to recognize it and know it's wrong and heinous, and are obligated to get help and not act upon it.

Re: The Old DJ's ... Where Are They Now?

But they aren't quite going to do that if it's all "Burn in Hell" that they can expect from society. They simmer in silence, terrified of being found out if they try and confront it, openly or in the most discreet professional manner. They wrestle with it all alone, as the predilection burns within them, demanding to be serviced.

So, many of them try and start in a less harmful manner --- masturbation fantasies. That leads them deeper into fear and isolation. They search online for porn, and that fulfills them briefly, but the deeper hunger grows, and now they are already felons, exchanging materials that have horribly exploited children. They maybe went in thinking "I didn't create this so I'm not responsible," but then realize in their shame shortly after that they are, of course, deeply complicit.

And that deeper hunger, well... one would guess trolling those porn sites not only finds you a community that has normalized your deviancy, but will likely direct you pretty quickly to opportunities to get the real thing. Next thing you know, you're Dave Herman.

If we're lucky.

Re: The Old DJ's ... Where Are They Now?

I guess I do sympathize with people who have these urges; it's got to be a dark and difficult place to be. But you simply CAN NOT ACT on these urges! Get some kind of therapy, or jump off a bridge, whatever it takes, but once you act on these impulses, there's no room at all for sympathy from me.

And reading that horrible quote that I posted, it sounds like this creep has rationalized his behavior, he feels that age six is the "perfect time to start her being loved that way." GAH! He probably got to the point where he didn't think he was doing anything wrong, just something illegal. I doubt (but can't be sure, of course) that he started out with that perspective. And it was on him to get himself cured long before he reached that stage.

During some missing child case a whole bunch of years ago, a couple of the head honchos of NAMBLA poked their heads up from underground to dispel rumors that they had anything to do with the young boy's abduction. As soon as the denials were given however the attendant press used the unusual opportunity jumped all over the NAMBLA members seeking to have them explain their organization having nothing to do with the case at hand. And the answers they gave were similar rationalizations along the lines of how young boys often "wanted love" from older men and when they did it was unfair to deny it to them. Not surprisingly, the answers didn't satisfy anyone and the NAMBLA brass suddenly couldn't get out of their mini self-called press-conference quickly enough.

Assuming your disorder stems from inborn brain chemistry, it's got to be a terrible dilemma, having strong pedophilic urges. Either spend a great deal of time/energy and risk societal scorn/distrust, to resist an urge in you that everything rational in you realizes is wrong, but feels so right, AND likely marinate in self-loathing for a lifetime, to boot... or do what most of us do to smooth over the rough edges of our life, only to a much more dramatic extent, and willfully pervert reality to suit your urges and self-image. If the facts are as described here, Herman's decades down the rationalization path; that ship went sailing years before Christopher Cross did, and it's probably whisked away more than a few unwilling victims in its wake.
