Halloween 2013

I cannot believe what the costumes look like for 5 year old girls. You people that make costumes should be ashamed of yourselves.

Stella will be picking from either Minnie Mouse or the most frumpiest looking SuperGirl ever.

Ryan will be some fire-monster looking thing.

Re: Halloween 2013

I wanna kill myself for not getting a photo but the party we were at the other night were a couple dressed as Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham from the Rumours era: She with a frizzy blond, draped sashes, long flowing stuff and a tamborine; he with those big glasses, demin shirt and floppy hat. It was a home run for anyone who got it.

Lunchpail insisted he was going to be a ninja this year despite not knowing anything about martial arts or having any interest in them. He doesn't even watch Ninjago. We get to the party and realize that every 7 year old boy in Brooklyn is also a Ninja this year.

MK had to dress up for yesterday's Family Halloween Concert at the high school. He affixed the MLB logo to the chest of his umpire jacket and number 66 on his sleeve and went as Jim Joyce.

I knew of J.D. and the lesser known Tim, but I had never heard of a brother named Elmo.
Guess that one decided not to go into baseball and that's probably a good thing; I bet all the other players would have made fun of him with that name.

Ballpark trips, robot-drawing, and Spider-Man pajama set notwithstanding, YoungerPooper's kinda gone Full-On Girl in the last few months, in a major way.

So, yeah, Cinderella/Disney princess it is for trick or treating, with a 30 percent chance of changing into Flamenco Girl for an evening birthday/Halloween party. (I might don a dragon hood to match the former outfit.)

Fboy will be "Annoying Orange," the star of quite possibly the most insipidly stupid kids show on our DVR. Fgirl will be Minnie Mouse.

I attended a party this past weekend in my own costume.

Re: Halloween 2013

Little man is Link from "Legend of Zelda," little girl is Pinkie Pie from "My Little Pony." My wife made both costumes. If you don't know Zelda ("Robin Hood? Peter Pan?") then you have no idea who he is, and if you don't know MLP ("A horsey? A bunny?") then you don't know who she is. But if you know either, they're really fucking dead on. The Link is particularly exceptional, I think.

minimm's mema (that's "maternal grandmother" in munchkinese) made him a freakin' sweet iron man costume. the arc reactor even lights up, thanks to a savvy mechanical engineer's recommendation of a sylvania dot light. pictures will happen in due time.

me, i have a standing zero-effort costume where i wear glasses and turn into clark kent. nobody's caught on yet, so its cool.

Things sure have changed. Not that blackface is ever a good idea, but I mean, I knew a guy in college who went as Adolph Hitler for Halloween, and to his sick credit absolutely nailed it (helped that he was a short obnoxious ROTC guy). Today this guy is a big-time spokesman for one of the biggest companies in the world, I see him on CNN sometimes.

One of the cartoons in my Sunday paper (forget which one) said the scariest thing seen on Halloween would be mother-daughter Miley Cyrus costumes.

My daughter likes to make her own costumes, and is going as "Pepper Potts" from Iron Man. I have no idea how she's going to make that work...

Re: Halloween 2013

This is the first year both kids are trick-or-treating without me and mrs. sage. I am happy, and a little bit sad.
But they both worked on carving and painting the pumpkin last night. my son thought we should carve a big one eating a little one, with 2 other small ones looking on in terror. So that's what we did.
I'll be stuck home giving out candy. Which is ok, but not as much fun.

Re: Halloween 2013

I was sort of using the Bacardi Rum logo as a model.
Fuzzy photography aside, it does look kinda cool in that I've got it lit via an internal flashing light so that, in the dark, the bat seems to just appear for a brief second then fly away only to return again a few seconds later.

A light-hitting, defensive shortstop and a furry, red monster go trick-or-treating.
