6:45 PM and two trick or treaters (and one mom) so far.

I got a few score. But they all seem to be trucked into our childless neighborhood. There's this thesis going around that adults have stolen (or are stealing) Halloween from children.

7:45. There have been about 25-30. And, yes, there have been a few mini-vans dropping kids off on our block.

So far, they have been dressed up and said "trick or treat" and then "thank you". In years past, the kids just held their hands out, like they were expecting something, and no word before or after. Maybe it is better if the parents are with them.

Maybe it's just bad memory, but I don't ever remember getting chaperoned by parents on Halloween.
Seems to me that if you weren't old enough to go with friends and/or siblings then you didn't go - although I don't remember what the initial age was (six?).
Plus you never went out of the neighborhood anyway so there was no need to cross any big streets or use cars.

We've probably had about 25 trick-or-treaters so far - a light year.

75-80 at 8:45.

Looks like its coming to a close.
In past years, we've had up to 120.

Barely 25 kids ... weird. Have a lot of candy here.

Re: Kiddie Kandy Kount

We had maybe 25-30 kids total -- though we were out with our own kids during the busiest stretch of time, and the rain picked up after we got home. Between what the kids got at school and day care, what they got on the block, and what we didn't give away, there is a TON of candy in my house.

My kids brought home a bucket of loot.

0 after 6:20, when I got home. perhaps some got there earlier. I rarely got any in my apartment the last five years either, but at least that was sorta nestled next to a highway and with stores on the other side so perhaps people didn't venture that way.

This year I'm on a throughfare street, though not a busy one, and there are no sidewalks up by me. Oh, and they'd have to walk up the hill of my driveway and climb a floor worth of stairs. Is that worth it for a fun size bag of M&Ms?

Corollary..should I walk down the stairs and to the street and back to burn off all the leftover fun size bags of M&Ms?

Fun variation: Run out of candy, and start giving them books. "Here, this is um... (checking)...Dion Boucicault.... I really haven't had time myself... Happy Halloween."

Re: Kiddie Kandy Kount

One candy-runner-outer was giving out nickels (not "nickels" as in plural, nickels as in many individual coins, one per kid) and invitations to "worship joyfully" with them in a storefront church this Sunday. Several, leaning-in invites. I nodded nervously, and shooed YoungerPooper toward the next house.

We got, like, a lot of Kit-Kats, and some Milky Way Darks, and a whole lot of Dum-Dums and Tootsie Rolls, and the old man on the corner of Evergreen and Parkview was giving out full-size Snickers and Reeses-- did you get any?

We also left a basket of peppermints, bite-size Reeses and Jolly Ranchers that was emptied by the time we returned. (So, somewhere between 1 and 100 kids, probably.)

one of the people i work with reported that a house their kid went to was giving out bottle of water.

which is like hte last thing you want on hallween. even if somebody's giving out nickels, they're not going to weigh you down and take up all the room in your goodie bag.

i'm personally tempted to egg them just on principle.

Or, y'know, you could just hydrate, then water the lawn.
