Re: Election Day 2013!

I guess I should swing by and see if I can write in Jason Heyward and Johnny Van Der Meer for the two seats that republicans are running for uncontested.

Next time around I'll be able to vote.....do I need to register?, what is the process?

Re: Election Day 2013!

You do need to register. The process probably varies. Start by finding out how to contact the local Election Board.

Re: Election Day 2013!

I predict that the outcomes of the few contests that even remotely smack of national interest (Guv races in NJ & VA) will be vastly over-cited by various opinion makers of various stripes as definitive statements as to the future direction of the country rather than merely local races being determined by local factors.

Re: Election Day 2013!

I'm just happy the County Executive race will finally be over
tonight here in Westchester. These two have spent a fortune
on advertising to the point where it just got ugly and unbearable ...

Really, do either look trustworthy?

I think the guy on the right is Vladimir Putin with a cheap wig.

Surprised the guy on the left didn't use that too!

Re: Election Day 2013!

I'm liberal, just to put that out there, and I would have voted for De Blasio. Having said that I am a little concerned when I hear him talk about the NYPD ....nor I have never been stopped and frisked due to my color so there is that. I foresee clashes with him and the NYPD brass. I wonder if Kelly stays.

De Blasio is my neighbor and I know him a little bit (enough for him to recognize me and say "hi" but he wouldn't know my name) and I'm happy he won. He has stated that Ray Kelly will be relieved of his post.

I know de Blasio a little bit too. I was a "say hello" acquaintance of him at NYU. He did know my name thirty years ago; I don't know if he'd remember me or not.

Then I'll miss De Blasio when Kelly has him killed.

Re: Election Day 2013!

WOW, two of our members know the new mayor.....what are the odds of that?

Re: Election Day 2013!

New mayors almost always treat the commissioner of police (a job established in NYC by Theodore Roosevelt shortly before he became US vice president) as a cabinet position and bring in a new one as a symbol of their new policies. Ray Kelly remains the only guy to hold the job twice and still retains a chance at a three-peat.

De Blasio has mentioned that he would consider William Bratton who would join Kelly as the only repeater.

He would like to get rid of Kelly to signal a change in mentality to a more community-engaging police posture... so he'll bring in either the autocratic Seρor "Broken Windows" or (according to other, earlier reports) Kelly's chief lieutenant/primary "Stop and Frisk" enforcer to set the tone. FAAAAANtastic.

One of DeBlasio's first moves will be to relieve Kelly and end stop and frisk...

One of the positions on my town ballot said "Vote for 4". There were only three candidate names listed. I was going to write in my own name to see what would happen. I didn't do it. The meetings would have conflicted with my late work schedule anyhow. (Lame excuse - I chickened out)

yeah, I had to "vote for 2" and there were only two republicans running, so I clicked the box and wrote in David Wright and voted for 1. blammo.
