Hey I know we had a thread on this once before but checking back in.

Looks like Santa is considering a computer for Lunchpail to do schoolwork and also to watch & play stuff maybe.

I get that the pros are it's simple and cheap, but what drawbacks?

I would guess it would be inadequate to do stuff like music and design?

What would you recommend for a 7 year old? Thanks thanks thanks....

Re: chromebook

I have a Chromebook, and I love it.

The big downside is that it doesn't have a ton of storage. A smaller downside is that there are occasional websites that don't work with the Chrome browser, but not very many of those. The upside is that it boots up like lightning and performs well.

If Lunchpail is primarily going to use the computer to access websites, the Chromebook is great. If he needs to download a lot of data, probably not so much.

Re: chromebook

Most of the storage for the Chromebook is online; you can save music on Google drive (or use Google's music service or stream from Pandora).

I used one and liked it a lot. Big drawback is that you need a wifi connection all the time.

Re: chromebook

Actually, my Chromebook has Verizon Wireless capability. I had 24 months of service that came with the purchase, and if I want to buy service each month it's an option. I haven't done that in a while, but every so often I've used it while on car trips.

Re: chromebook

It's my primary computer, downloading stuff has never been an issue for me, it's in the cloud as noted. You will be tied closely to Google though, or your kid will be.

It's cheap for a reason, Lorcan has dropped mine a few times and well it nearly came apart, pure plastic, just click it all back together....he uses it a lot...uses Starfall on it all the time....
