Foreign Female Faves

From Julie Andrews to Petula Clark to Chryssie Hynde to Adelle. From Carmen Miranda to Gloria Estefan to Shakira to Cote de Pablo (yes, Ziva sings). From Olivia Newton-John to Kylie Minogue. From Buffy Sainte-Marie to Anne Murray to (gulp) Celine Dion to Shenia Twain.
Female singers from around the world have graced the US pop charts with their voices for many years.

Who is your favorite?

Thread killer. I was going to add a comment about no Boy George votes, but didn't.
I should have known ...

BTW, my vote goes to Kylie Minogue.

Re: Foreign Female Faves

Just off the top of my head, I've always been partial to the Muppets.

Also, Dusty Springfield. 'Cause, good Lord, Dusty in Memphis. Also, Sade. Also, PJ Harvey and Edith Piaf.

(Also, also, Chryssie Hynde's like Paul Hornung, Doug Flutie, or Jim Brown-- All-American.)

I knew there were too many to mention, so I didn't make it a poll.
I was also going to put Edith Piaf and Celine Dion in their own category, because were they really on the "pop" charts?
As for Chryssie, insert blushing emoticon here.

Monique zings?

Another sign that my eyesight is going --- I initially read "Foreign Female Slaves."

As for me and my house, we like Joan Armatrading, Alison Moyet, and Pink Lady.

Around this time of year, we get a hankering for Kirsty MacColl.

Kirsty MaColl wrote Tracey Ullman's hit "They don't know about us."

RIP Kirsty..

never realized that Bardot was a singer...

I don't speak French, but that song seemed pretty bad...about the only thing that was memorable about the video/song was Bardot's legs...

Too bad she was born in New York...

Cote De Pablo is just... Let's just say that I miss her tremendously this season.

I absolutely loved Olivia Newton John when I was a kid. She had the voice of an angel.

Out of all of them, there's just something about Julie Andrews that. just. hits. me. right. HERE.

What do Gimme Shelter, The Leader of the Pack, White Room, Eleanor Rigby , Dazed and Confused, River Deep, Mountain High and Bonnie and Clyde all have in common?

A. They're all included in NME's list of the top 100 songs of the 1960's.

Is that Charlotte Gainsbourg's father?

No offense to Faye Dunaway here, but who would wake up in the morning and say "I'm going to make Brigette Bordot zexier by dressing her and making her up like Faye Dunaway and make her sing some nonsense about a movie she's not in"?

Most people think of Charlotte as Serge's daughter. Most people try to forget that they recorded this song together when she was 12.
