With Todd Helton's and Mariano Rivera's Andy P's retirements, I'm counting X remaining ballplayers from the 20th century:

I'm probably missing many more, but so far, I've got.

Re: 20th Century Boy

Miguel Tejada (1997) played for KC last year. May not end up on a team in '14 but I haven't heard that he's retired.

Re: 20th Century Boy

last season, there were 50 major leaguers who'd played 14 years or more (meaning they'd debuted at least as early as 2000), per bbref.

mind you, this does not include any players who missed a full complete season (or two) along the way, either due to injury or spending a full year in the minors, as this only counts years appearing in the majors. like randy choate. he's only got 13 years, having debuted in 2000, but missed all of 2008.

Re: 20th Century Boy

I'm not looking necessarily for continuous service, just for any active dudes who played in the bigs before Bush was first inaugurated. I'm treating 2000 as a 20th Century year.

Guys like Contreras and Suzuki --- who played in the top league in another country and were restricted from advancing to MLB --- probably deserve a consolation prize.

Jesse Orosco and Jamie Moyer are still playing somewhere right?

Right?

Re: 20th Century Boy

20TH CENTURY TEAM

These are guys who played relatively full seasons last year and are in a position to play regularly next year:

OF - TORI HUNTER
2B - MICHAEL YOUNG
OF - CARLOS BELTRAN
DH - DAVID ORTIZ
3B - ADRIAN BELTRE
OF - ALFONSO SORIANO
C - AJ PIERZINSKI
1B - PAUL KONERKO
SS - JIMMY ROLLINS

SP - BARTOLO COLON
SP - TIM HUDSON
SP - BRONSON ARROYO
SP - AJ BURNETT
SP - BRUCE CHEN

RP - JOE NATHAN
RP - LaTROY HAWKINS
RP - JASON GRILLI
RP - JAMEY WRIGHT
RP - SCOTT DOWNS
RP - RANDY CHOATE

BENCH: PLACIDO POLANCO, MARK DeROSA, JUAN PIERRE, RAUL IBANEZ, RAMON HERNANDEZ

No speed, limited defensive range, and thin at SP, but a ton of power. This could be said of a lot of pretty good teams over the years.
