Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

He's old. He's fat. And his representatives are talking with the representatives the New York Mets!

Tracksuit is dubous.

Andy Martino @MartinoNYDN
I am told Mets likely not serious players for Bartolo Colon. Too pricey.

Tracky doesn't run the world, though. (What a break it would be for Adidas if he did, though!)

Can anybody explain how he was so good at 40 years old last year and how much that made him worth? Uh... two years and $23 million? Doesn't sound like something he'd go for but I'm shy about going higher, even if I have the munny.

A two-year contract to a 41-year-old pitcher? Pretty scary, unless it's incentive laden.

Per Rubin:
Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland Athletics last season.

I had no idea that he did that. Still, depending on pitchers over 40 to produce similar results again is tough to do.

And depending on ones built like Dom Deluise to do it again is even tougher.

Really Frayed ... you couldn't come up with an example never than the 1970s? Actually, I could not.

There's always Rob Ford as a go-to-guy for a fat joke.

Well, that's just a number I threw out there, being as close to what I was imagining he might be asking for as I was willing to go. Add your own offers.

ditto. He's an innings eater but he retains all those innings he eats.

On WCBS radio, I heard "Mets (static) Bartolo Colon (static)"
Did they sign him?

They met him. Florida is only so big, though; I'd imagine it's hard to walk around a Disney resort occupied by Bartolo Colon and NOT run into him at some point.

He's started at least 24 games each of the last three years, and put up a ERA+ of 123 since age 35.

Re: Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

Burkhardt live from the meetings on SNY yesterday at 7pm with Martino and Jim Duke...with the money will command no on Bartolo....more likely Santana will be back with an incentive laden contract.

Re: Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

It would be a curious move. Whatever the upside, he would almost certainly be another guy they wouldn't ask 32 starts from. Maybe you bring him along slowly --- start his season in mid-May, so he's (hopefully) fresh at the end when they're shutting Mejia/Montero/Syndergaard down.

Re: Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

The Mets and Colon apparently could be close to a two year deal......Murti

Murti pulls back his original tweet claiming a two year deal had been agreed to now saying they are still talking.

Re: Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

would not have expected this would be considered good use of rare $$.

I'd have guessed maybe they'd squeeze Livan hernandezish year out of him but that's on a bargain.

I guess I need to respect his success.

Re: Vamos a hablar de Bartolo Colon

Two years is definitely risky at Colon's age, but he has ace upside and more lives than a cat.

Well, you could have gone with Mickey Lolich...

But, well, he doesn't have to produce similar results. Good ones will do.
