So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

We have 12-13 people coming over. I have to do the heavy
lifting, but people are bringing stuff too. Gotta love a guy who
brings mashed potatoes for 14-15.

Enjoy!

Home for the first time in years, Wifey's folks coming by but that's it. I just threw the bird in the brine, filled 2 growlers of beer and am starting soon on stuffing.

Re: So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

All three kids at home, plus my middle guy's college roommate (the kid is from Hawaii, so there's no way he can go home for the holiday). Picked up a fresh bird from the local turkey farm. Tomorrow morning I'm doing an 8 am turkey trot 5K, then coming home to make my soda bread, and then we'll get the turkey going. Once the bird comes out of the oven D-Dad will make latkes (and as I have said before, cranberry sauce is the BEST latkes topping!).

Gobble Tov everyone!

Mr. cooby, me, and the cats.

FIVE DAYS OFF because of school holiday! I just have a party on Saturday to do, and church on Sunday, otherwise I am off duty!

Re: So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

Driving to aunt's in Jersey for morning food prep (green bean/kale-and-parmesan thing), then 30-person to-do at 3 pm.

THEN-- because America! Will! Not! Be! Outsold!-- heading to sideline retail gig at midnight.

Seems to me that KK would eat a lot at a Thanksgiving dinner. Must be hard to plan the menu when he shows up.

1:00pm dinner at the 'rents, then 6 hours of DVR-ed football.

My daughter is will get her first non-breast milk meal on Thursday and is going to be spending each night of the weekend adapting to sleeping in her crib at night.

Turkey Trots! A 5k at 9:15 and a 10k at 10 AM, then a nap, then a 5 PM dinner at my wife's uncle. Around 25 people or so. Bringing a gluten free baked ziti which is already assembled and needs only to be baked.

And I was proud of myself for getting up early for a 5K....

Best of luck with the dual trots!

We're hosting. 12 or 13 for dinner. We make everything except desserts (we have some serious baker friends). I'm responsible for the turkey, cranberry sauce (already made) and, for a Thanksgiving/Hannukah mashup some sweet potato latkes.

Re: So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

Family coming over, kids and grandkids.
Its the only day of the year when MMYF lets me into the kitchen to cook. (I barbecue outside)
I do the turkey and the stuffing. She made the desserts and will make potato latkes (for Hanukkah). The kids are bringing the other side dishes.
Have a great one everyone.
And don't forget to give thanks for our blessings.

And, as Stan Freberg wrote and sang in his album "Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America":

Mayor Pennypacker:
Take an Indian to lunch this week
Show him we're a regular bunch this week
Show him we're as liberal as can be
Let him know he's almost as good as we
Make a feathered friend feel fed this week
Overlook the fact he's red this week
Let him share out Quaker Oats
'Cause he's useful when he votes
Take an Indian to lunch

Pilgrim Chorus:
Two, four, six, eight, who do we tolerate?
Indians, Indians, rah, rah, rah
Take an Indian to lunch this week
Let him sit right down and munch this week

Mayor Pennypacker:
Let's give in and all do the brotherhood bit
Just make sure we don't make a habit of it
Take an Indian to dine this week
Show him we don't draw the line this week
We know everyone can't be
As American as we
After all, we came over on the Mayflower
Take an Indian
Not a wooden Indian
But a real, live Indian
To lunch.

Re: So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

3 months (and 1 day) into our homeownership, we're hosting 16 people that looks to be dropping to 13 as my mother in law had an issue today with a bad reaction to a virus or somesuch and won't be making it. Of course that could become 14 if my 18 year old brother decides to forgo waiting outside bestbuy for a TV and brave the cat allergies. best friend and his wife, their parents, my aunt and her husband, and my parents.

Making a ridiculous amount of food. Because it's Thanksgiving and I'm Italian and that's just what happens.

Re: So What's Your Turkey Day 2013?

dual trots sounds like a hell of a problem. especially on thanksgiving...

no trotting for me tomorrow. i think it's a good thing i don't want to aggravate either my shoulder or my foot, because aggravating a doubly pregnant mrs.mm would be a very very bad thing when i still have a ton of work to do around the house to get ready for the 6 family guests we're hosting (her parents and my mom, two sisters, and brother in law).

usually we do more of the cooking, but this year, we're outsourcing all but the turkey, stuffing, and bacony brussels sprouts.

There is never a good time to lose a loved one, but losing them during the holidays is particularly difficult. Cherish the memories. My thoughts and prayers with be with you tomorrow.

I'm sorry, Ashie. To echo what Doc said, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I can't imagine losing either one of my parents at any time, let alone on a holiday...

I'm thankful that my parents are still around. My dad has been fighting cancer all summer, and just had surgery a couple of weeks ago to lessen some of the pain he was in. I'm shooting the local high school game this morning, we're hosting my father-in-law, sister-in-law (and her family), and my aunt. Since my parents don't feel well enough to come over, I'll be bringing dinner to them with my kids. I have a busy day ahead, and I'm thankful that it's as busy as it is.

Crazy man. I think I'd be the violent one on the news just cause of all the people up in my personal space. What you buyin??

I am at work, as is my Thxgiving tradition the last 7 or 8 years running (working tomorrow, too). Was invited to 'meet the family' of my lady friend at their turkey dinner, but not sure I'm ready for that spotlight just yet. It's between that, and going home to drink wine & watch 'Archer'.
