NY Mets Sometimes Annual Song Parody Contest

Who wants to be the next George Gerwshin of Mets songs?

If anyone's interested in playing in one of those year end NY Met themed song parody contests that's been missing these past few years, I'll volunteer to run it. I'll seed it, organize it, format it, come up with a system to hand out first round byes if needed and whatever else.

Oh, it adds to the adventure to learn the rules at the starting line. What? I gotta perform the song in a video with my underwear on my head? Well, that's... oh, look, everybody's forfeited me into the semi-finals.

Re: NY Mets Sometimes Annual Song Parody Contest

I suggest that there should be some kind of forfeit provision. I think this contest has failed to complete the last few times around because some players never got around to submitting an entry, which caused the whole thing to languish. Maybe a ten-day deadline after each matchup is set would solve that.

I'm not in until I learn more about the controls on the vote count.
There have been some contests decided by a flood of votes at the last minute, sort of like a Chicago election.

Immediately?
Hardly.
I did win one contest.
Are you talking about a few years later, when I recommend a solution to plug what I saw as a loophole in the rules?
It was ignored.

OK. No one's gonna be allowed to vote close in time to the previous voter. How about one vote per day per contest? Is that OK with you?

Agreed. A generous amount of time will be allotted to submit your entry ... and a strictly enforced deadline that will result in a forfeit if not met. I'll run this thing like a 19th century schoolteacher would have. Or Dallas Green. You'll hate me. But you'll love me, too.

Not what I meant. What I proposed was like the stickers they give out saying "I voted". Everyone who votes should add to the thread and say "I voted". Those posts should equal the number of votes tallied. Like an accounting control, so nobody could sign on with their multiple (old) screen names to vote again.

Thank you for clarifying. Each contest (or bracket) (or square-off) (or hoedown) (or showdown) (wasn't this in the NYT Dialect Quiz, too?) will be run as a poll. I believe that the poll mechanism prevents anyone from voting more than once. Unless the mods have a secret hack. Or unless there are members here with multiple ID's. I don't know how to prevent that sort of abuse, but I'm open to suggestions.

Here's an oldie from Centerfield, channeling the Sex Pistols and The Ramones to give us his ode to Paul Wilson. CF was late and broke every rule in the contest. But it was worth it.

Centerfield wrote:
Sorry about the wait. Is this song going to get me disqualified? Yup. Is it worth it? Yup. I think it really demonstrates where I am as a fan right about now.

Anyway, the subject is Paul Wilson. The song is the closing theme to the Flintstones.
