A MOSTLY HUMORLESS SET OF RULES FOR THE 2013-14 CPF SINGLE ELIMINATION SONG PARODY CONTEST

SONG PARODIES

1 Create a song parody of an actual song. Your song parody should be based on a Met topic, most likely a Met related theme, thing or person (“Met topic”) that will be provided.

MET TOPICS

2 Several Met topics will be provided in each round from which to base your song parody on. (But See, Rule #4: Met Topics in the Championship Round, below). Rather than provide each player with his or her own personal set of Met topics, this year, each player will choose his or her Met topic from a common pool of Met topics. Every Met topic provided will be available to every player (thus, “common pool”). Therefore, it is possible, and probably likely, that in some of the head to head match-ups, the competing players will have chosen the same Met topic. This system promotes fairness, and avoids any "I wanted to be Mr. Black; Mr. Brown sounds like shit" issues.

3. A new set of Met topics will be provided for each round. The Met topics provided in the previous round will no longer be in play. In each advancing round, the number of available Met topics will decrease, consistent with the fact that the number of eligible players will also decrease with each advancing round.

MET TOPICS: THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND (a/ka/ THE FINALS)

4 For the championship round, one Met topic will be provided, thus requiring the two finalists to create a parody from the same theme.

SUBMITTING YOUR PARODY

6. Players will be given a generous amount of time to submit their song parodies. (something like a week and a half to two weeks for each song).

7. Song parodies will be deemed submitted when they are received by me in my CPF Private Mailbox. Players should not post their completed parodies on the main forum.

8. Players may also include a Youtube or other video of the actual song being parodied, either at the top or bottom of the post.

MISSING THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT YOUR SONG

9. Don’t.

10. But if you must, reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate players who cannot meet their deadlines, so long as the flow of the tournament isn’t compromised. Players who cannot submit their parodies prior to the deadline for submission risk forfeiting their pending match-up and tournament elimination.

What about the cash prizes traditionally provided by the contest coordinator?

We totally need some sponsors. Some Rheingold shwag isn't too much to ask.

I'll have my lawyer go over this before I officially commit.

I'm reading these rules and wondering in my head which Mets player name rhymes most with "jizz bag."

If you're creative, you can do something with Billy Wags, but your best bet is probably Darren Bragg.
