Mets have re-signed Hefner, will pay him to rehab from TJS.

Possibly a good move considering they will need extra pitching in the second half as innings limits and attrition come into play.

Any notion on when he is due back?

The initial prognosis, when he had his surgery, was that he'd miss all of 2014. Maybe he's on track now to be back sooner than that. Even if not, it may pay to have him in reserve for 2015.

I'm glad; Hef deserved not to be simply jettisoned. Is it a major-league or minor-league contract? If it's major-league, what exactly did the Mets save by non-tendering him?

Nothing, in that case.

But it isn't.

Now his "I'll tell the whole story when I sign with another team" quote from the other day (or whatever he said) is either more or less interesting depending on your perspective.

Regardless, glad to have him back and I wish him the best.

Minor league deal.
