The first time in my life I ever skipped classes was to attend that game.

I like how the opening montage, presumably culled exclusively from 1983 Spring Training footage, opens with a shot of a Met (Bailor?) being thrown out at first. If that does't wet your whistle for what's to come, what will?

Almost all the shots are from games against the Cardinals, and you'd think that they were all from the same game, but you see the Cardinals in home whites and road baby blues, and then you recall that pretty much every third game was against the Cardinals back then, as they shared a spring complex.

Cool also how prescient the editor of that montage was, including shots of Keith Hernandez and Frank Howard, who weren't part of the story at the time, but soon would be huge parts. No Strawberry, however.

Welcome to Mets Baseball '83 -- don't get your hopes up just yet!

Wow. Datsun dealers and the 'Good Olds Boys'!

That opening has Keith in a Cardinals uni, too. Talk about things to come.

I remember that game as if it was just thirty years ago! Had field level box seats, front row, right on the rail, first base side. Tom Seaver walked right past us on the way from the bullpen to the mound. Amazing that I was able to get (and afford) such seats. That certainly wouldn't be the case today, especially for a college student making little more than minimum wage, as I was then.

Doug Sisk with a heck of a save.

Siskie actually walked off with the win.

Tom Seaver
Mike Schmidt
Steve Carlton
Pete Rose
Joe Morgan
Tony Perez
Even Doug Harvey behind the plate.

A lot of big names in that game...

Can't wait to set aside some time to watch this. I was there
too like many of you, up by The Agee Home Run Marker.

Great find! Thanks, G!

Way to butcher both the mayor and governor's names, Ralph. You're alright.

Hard to say whether the tech wasn't there or the execution, but the pre-game looks sloppy as hell. Was Webb on the job yet?

Fun to see Ralph, Tim and Steve before they had quite coalesced. They were on a pace slightly ahead of the 1983 Mets themselves.

So, I've been thinking. I said where I was that day because I
think of the Agee Marker (sold to a collector who has it in his
backyard according to Wiki) when I think of that area of Shea
seating. I have no recollection of seeing it thirty years ago.

Was it there? If not, when was that spot recognized?

Greg will be here momentarily with total recall but I'm thinking it was '96 maybe.

I think we've all discussed it, I just have a bad memory.

July 22, 1994, part of the 25th ann'y celebration of '69. Howie lobbied the Mets for quite a while and finally got them to act.

Thanks. I think I was at that game.
I need to hit the lumosity.com site before I can't remember anything.

I watched that game from the train station beyond right field. Silly college kids, we thought we could walk up and get tickets.
