Reportedly claimed today from P'burgh.

The 28-year-old Reid made his big league debut for the Buccos in 2013 and pitched well, posting a 1.64 ERA with seven punchouts and three walks in 11 innings of work. He posted a 51.5 percent ground-ball rate and averaged 91.9 mph on his fastball in that brief Major League sample. Reid has enjoyed continued success as a reliever in the minors, as evidenced by his career 3.57 ERA in 194 innings at Triple-A. He's averaged 8.6 strikeouts and 3.2 walks per nine innings in parts of three seasons at that level.

Re: Ryan Reid

With the decent overage minors results, and the non-wowing K/BB numbers, he seems like the proverbial "just a guy." But, hey, we could use guys.

Just a guy? Well pull up a chair and I'll tell ya about another guy, who was just a guy. That's right. Scott Fuckin Rice.

Quickly confused by me with Reid Ryan, progeny of Nolan.

Re: Ryan Reid

Having a relief pitcher who can get batters to hit ground balls is a good thing.

Re: Ryan Reid

I don't know if it's a traditional strategy to try and sneak guys through waivers over the holidays when you think your rivals are too busy trimming trees to pay attention to the waiver wire, but 12/23 was a waiver claim bonanza.

Re: Ryan Reid

You can't get excited about a waiver claim, but a 3.50 ERA over 65 innings doesn't appear beyond him. Well worth the very low risk.

Re: Ryan Reid

I live for getting excited over waiver claims.

I'm certain this guy is Gary Gentry, Gary Gygax, and Gary U.S. Bonds rolled into one.

Reid should shift the NL balance of power.
