Centerfield Feb 27 2014 07:44 AM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
Not nearly as scary as pitchers not getting MRI's. I'm still irritated that the Mets would not give Wheeler a precautionary MRI last season when they shut him down with shoulder soreness. Why not just check it out and be safe?

well tongue in cheek, but.. Niese DOES have a partial tear in his shoulder, which has gone a little unreported in this MRI discussion. He's been managing it through medication and such, but it's still there. Or at least, it's supposed to be. (Did the MRI not find it, or not find anything new?)

"Clean." Whatever that means exactly, it's better than the alternative. I remember that pitchers were expected to go through a "dead arm" phase. Maybe this is something innocuous. We'll know soon enough, I guess; see if he makes a few exhibition starts and seems okay.
|
Ceetar Feb 27 2014 11:07 AM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |

Perhaps given the tear and injury last year, he's justgoing to take a little longer to ramp up from 0 in the Spring.

I think they'll "day to day" Granderson and if he can't go by Friday then you activate CYoung and retroactive Grandy's DL. Worst case scenario you're only short a man for two games.

I'm totally on board with Abreu being a LH pinch hitter/emergency outfielder, especially if it helps to trade Ike. And maybe they just demote Ike and see if he can't increase his value there.

You mean if he gets another 3 hits today with a HR? I doubt that's enough of a sample size to really change the plan (unless Granderson is more hurt than it seems I guess) and jump Kirk above Andrew on the depth chart. I think they'd rather have the righty with Davis already on the bench too.

You can't be any clearer about that. Tearing a piece off a teammate with your teeth is something the Dodgers do not condone. Thanks for clearing up any ambiguity about that, Ned. Other organizations may look the other way, but not you guys. When your behavior is closer to cannibalism than not, the Dodgers think it's over the line. Colletti could not be clearer.

He could also be Synderfull of shit. Players are the last people to trust about stuff like this. I'll believe it when a doctor says he's fine. And even then, i'd want a 2nd opinion.

Edgy MD May 27 2014 10:52 AM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |

|
Vic Sage May 27 2014 10:58 AM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
|
And i'm not saying you did, or even that you implied otherwise, so let's please not go there. As for Synderfella, he can not only be wrong, he could be lying. Players apparently lie about their physical condition all the time so as not lose playing time, and to avoid the DL, and to avoid any perception of them as fragile by their team and teammates (or in this case, perhaps the general public). So self-immolation (for those considering it) is still very much on the table until we hear further.

Nymr83 May 27 2014 03:22 PM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
If I were a player, particularly one who is apparently so close to the big leagues, i'd be lying the shit out of any and all injuries too, because all it takes is a call-up and then WHAM "my X really hurts, I'm gonna go see Dr. Andrews", because then the entire year on the DL for Tommy John surgery counts towards your major league service time because they cant send you down while on the DL or send you down and then DL you if you claim the injury occured in the majors

|
Edgy MD Aug 11 2014 10:08 PM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
I really don't mean to be wisen. I just simply have to disagree. You can't get caught up in thinking that's the goal. It's empty, Pyrrhic, and diabolically seductive.
|
Gwreck Aug 11 2014 10:52 PM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
||
Except shutting down Mejia to have necessary hernia surgery accomplishes both goals. It's not a binary situation. I would guess that shutting him down is more about protecting his health than weakening the team (after all, he's only the closer) but if it has the additional benefit of weakening the team with respect to next year's draft position, so be it.
It's August 11 and the Mets are still 6 games under .500. They're not going to make the playoffs in 2014. If they finish with one of the ten worst records this year, they won't lose their first round draft pick when they sign free agent pitchers Max Scherzer or Jon Lester to boost next year's rotation.
|
Edgy MD Aug 11 2014 11:28 PM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
||
I don't think it's an established fact at all that it accomplishes the first goal. I think the Mets would jump on it if was that clear. I don't think the second goal is much of a goal at all.
I don't think this is anything like an established fact either. The team is seven and a half off the division and six off the wild card. They'd be a game closer in both if they made any number of subtle decisions just a little bit better on Sunday afternoon. It's unlikey, sure, but unlikelier things happen every season. The Pirates were within reach, a game and half in front of the Mets, two weeks ago. Now they're now the wild card leader.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 12 2014 06:09 AM Re: Injuries and Recoveries in 2014 |
