Split Strat?

Hey y'all. I want to pick up the first Strat-O-Matic card of Stony Brook alum Tom Koehler, which I'm assuming will be in the Marlins set this year. But I don't need to buy the whole game again, and I could just go on eBay and buy it standalone, but I think it'd be more fun to get a group of people together and split the purchase and break up the teams. So if I can corral up five other people, for example, we'd get six teams each. Anyone interested?

Might be interested. I don't play this these days but I may start. I'll get back to you.

Re: Split Strat?

Can't get any of my brothers to commit to playing so I'll have to pass. :(

Hey, thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure if this would actually come through, but I figured I'd throw it out there. Threw it up on FB too.

Tempted, but I know I wouldn't be able to sustain the commitment.

Fair enough -- figured I'd throw the idea out there and if it worked, cool; if not, no big deal.

Re: Split Strat?

i used to play Strat as a kid... my brothers had the game and, like everything else, i got their broken or forgotten hand-me-downs. I remember having the `71 Mets, and Seaver's card was INSANE! I would love to play it again but, alas, i have no one to play it with... this is a problem for me in a wide range of activities. I'm still able to use my son as company for some (not all) films my wife won't see, or to watch ARCHER, BOB'S BURGERS, etc., or go to COMIC-CON with, but he has no interest in sports at all. I can't even interest him in SF/Fantasy-based tabletop games like FIREFLY (which is awesome, by the way). So i have nobody to play it with... all the friends i once had who would have been interested in that kind of activity are all far away, with families of their own, and with whom i occasionally share an email but am otherwise unconnected to.

Now I'm getting depressed. thanks a lot.

Do you have any experience with the computer version? I know its not the same but... I have been rolling the dice with the simulation Extra Innings...Jeff Sagarin wrote the pitching metrics while at MIT..they give you the formula for making player cards..

I got the computer version a while back, but have no idea where that disc is now. I liked the card-formulas thing -- I made a few custom cards at the time.

And to address Vic's concern, that's why I recommended that our marine science department hire smg, just so I have someone to play Strat with once in a while.

Re: Split Strat?

Does anyone know about the newer computer versions of SOM? I grew up on that game but haven't played in a very long time (very long time). I heard that with the new computer version, you could play your opponent on-line, without either of you having to leave your homes.

BTW, when I first read Seawolf's original post, I thought that he was asking if others wanted to go in on a set just so he could own one of the cards. I didn't read it as a suggestion to set up an actual play league.

OotP, if you are not careful, can take over your life.

I'd play it online with folks, but I'm afraid it'd do just that.

Didn't a couple of us mess with this many years ago:

I have a cd or two, definitely one of the '69 Mets.

I would be interested in a PC version.

That would be correct. But if y'all want to be inspired to set up an online league, go to town.

I found one taker so far on the baseball card board I'm on. It's no big deal if my idea doesn't come together -- I just pick up the Marlins on eBay for the Koehler card and I'm good to go. I figured I'd throw it out there in case any of you DO play, and want a handful of extra teams.

Re: Split Strat?

I'm trying to find the free online simulation with fictional players and attributes...You get a certain amount of "points" to allocate to your players abilities..You get to manage your team with each game taking from 2-10 minutes depending on your settings..

I haven't used it in a couple of years ago and want to re-up...fun and the season ends in a week..

Diamond Mine is new to me..Sure looks complete..

Anybody go back to Negamco or Big League Manager developed circa 1958 and still around?? They ended up putting out rosters with no names in lieu of paying the union...
