Ralph it is.

Ralph, by the way, won the support of exactly 1.1% of the BBWAA electorate his first time on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.

I knew the answer because that question was a quiz on a Citi Field era Mets baseball game.

Who is the only player to have achieved at least 250 hits for the American League’s Milwaukee Brewers and the National League’s Milwaukee Brewers?

When was the 15% "must get" rule to stay on the ballot enacted?

Re: Only Player

I was on my way out when I asked that question, and I asked it exactly wrong.

Only guy to get caught stealing four times in one game.

(Because Perry Farrell, as we know, only got caught stealing once. When he was five.)

Re: Only Player

I didn't know this, had to look into it, but lets get this quiz movin again.

Robby Thompson, San Francisco Giants, June 27, 1986. It was a 12-inning game and the Giants kept sending their "fast" rookie, Thompson. And he kept getting caught. Four times.

What makes that even crazier is that, in the 149 games he played that season, he only successfully stole 12 bases (and was caught 15 times). So by late June, the Giants should've figured out that maybe he wasn't the track star they thought he was.

Don't give me any shit for wanting to learn something new. I thirst for knowledge.
I gave it some time for others to speak up.

Who is the only player to steal the same base twice in one inning(And three bases total... including FIRST)?

Not according to my sources, which I might divulge if you really bug me.

Whoops, just talked to my source and the info I'm using hit the innerwebs in 2009 so it could be dated. But still, I don't think any one has stolen first base in the last few years.

If this story is not true I'm gonna be pissed, because its a really interesting and somewhat funny tale.

Well, not quite three bases. But one of them was first.

That's a great link & great info, and down deep in the page is the answer to my quiz. And it says there that two people did it :( Sorry but I'm crap as a quiz giver.
Oh wait, I think it's referring to stealing first base, not three stolen bases including first. So my quiz stands!

The rule against stealing bases in reverse came into being in 1920. This amazed me.

oy.
Someone, please lift this terrible burden of being the quiz master!
The answer is in the article!

It's under the heading "The Man Who Stole First Base" which inspired the book "The Man Who Stole First Base". This guys antics also were one of the reasons the rule was changed in 1920.

Close. The now-retired Kid could give you tours of the bases-- because he's been around 'em-- in 44 different ballparks.

My first hunch was Barry Bonds. But as I began to type his name into the post, I realized that the answer would likely be someone from the '90s and '00s who played in both leagues. So if not Thome, then how about Sosa?

Ding, ding. Jacobs/Progressive Field in Cleveland being the last one entered in the ledger, on April 26 of '07.

Griffey's just behind at 44, with the Crime Dog (43), Ellis Burks (!) (41) and Mike Piazza/Gary Sheffield (40) rounding out the top 5.
