Browsers 2014

Firefox has been my browser of choice for quite some time now.
I also enjoy using their Thunderbird as my email client as opposed
to Outlook. My Firefox version is 26.0 according to the Help/About.
Fucker's been crashing a lot lately, especially on facebook. I get a
box that says it's crashed and gives some details and options.

Anyone else have Firefox woes? I refuse to use Explorer except to
test pages that I've constructed. I find Chrome a little strange for
some reason but use it occasionally.

Re: Browsers 2014

I switched over from Firefox to Chrome ages ago, and have been pleased with it.

In the rare instance that something doesn't work optimally in Chrome I'll try it in IE. But I use Chrome 98% of the time.

Re: Browsers 2014

Chrome get the nod as the best and fastest. I can understand how the look may be confusing at first, but it's easy to adapt to, and most other browsers are switching to that look anyway. It also integrates your bookmarks over several platforms and has some nice add-ons, especially if you're using things like Gmail or other Google Apps.

Second choice is Opera. Fast and innovatively designed. All the innovations in browsers over the past few years showed up in Opera first (except the ability to search in the address bar, which Chrome pioneered). Still some nice features such as Opera Turbo (which speeds up display). Opera Mini is the best mobile browser.

Internet Explorer is next. They keep improving it, and it still has more users than any other.

Firefox is slow and clunky, and keeps getting worse with age. It has not been able to keep up with Chrome.

Safari is poorly designed, gives you fewer options, no customization, and is slow to innovate (They were the last to allow you to search in the address bar). Like most Apple products, they are more concerned in making it look cool than to make it function efficiently.

Chrome and the multi-platform/google integration is too good to pass up. I've heard if you keep six googol tabs open it actually ends up being slower than Firefox but whatever. Quicker to load, search is smoother, when I google an address on it it's automatically on my phone with ETA, and javascript console built in makes it my choice.

I've gone with Firefox for years and it has been crashing quite a bit lately on me too. I have Chrome but never checked it out. I will.

Re: Browsers 2014

What a coincidence that this thread is here. I had been using IE, then switched to Chrome. I 've been very happy with it. A few minutes ago, I tried to use Chrome and got a message the Google Chrome was expereiencing problems. Tried several times, no go. I had to revert back to my old browser.

Firefox for home and Chrome for work.

Anything but IE.

Re: Browsers 2014

I was to the point that I thought I needed a new computer a few months ago...I switched to Chrome when something I was using offered to install it and suddenly it was like I HAD a new computer!

It's great, except I don't like how anything I try to save from someone (documents, photos) are downloaded instead of put into regular picture or document files; it seems impossible to figure out how to post a picture here on CPF because instead of "properties" it now says "inspect element", and lastly I also cant figure out how to make a favorites bar like I had on IE.

Other than that, I love it!

To the right of the URL, there's a white star. If you click it, it will become yellow and you will have saved it as a bookmark.

If you right click on an image and choose Copy Image URL you can then post the image here.

Also, Ctrl/Shift/B toggles the bar on and off. There's a separate category in the bookmarks for the bar; when you create a bookmark, a window pops up to choose where to put it. Select "Bookmarks Bar."

Maybe I'll give Chrome another try. Last time I tried it, it was absolutely miserable. Nothing seemed to work.

Nope still not doing it but maybe we're on the right track :) I'll keep fiddling around with it. Did not know that about the Ctl+shift+B, neat....

BenGrimm, give it another try!

Re: Browsers 2014

Whoa, everything is so small looking here on Chrome. I think I did have fonts and stuff enlarged on Firefox. I imported my bookmarks from Firefox, so that's kool but I'll have to figure out where all the other things are. I only see the bookmarks folder.

I guess it would help if I hit the "getting started" icon. So far very smooth and fast. I like :)

It's easy enough to go into the Chrome settings and increase the zoom.

Hold down Ctrl and roll the scroll wheel to increase or decrease text size on the fly.

Yea, figured this out quick enough yesterday. But today I got on the PC and forgot about Chrome, fired up ol' Firefox. I'm gonna need a new shortcut.

I like the Chrome browser and I'm going to switch.

One question: There's a "getting started" icon upper left. When I clicked it, it took me to a page about setting up my Firefox browser. Is it supposed to do that? Is that because Chrome is yet to be set as default browser?

Probably. That is probably just a weblink and will open your default browser.

Between browsers?

I only go to IE when I have an issue in Chrome. Like my Cryptogram website works better in IE than Chrome. But for the most part I live in Chrome.

Re: Browsers 2014

I think I'll give Chrome a try real soon. I've been having major problems with Firefox over the past few months. It starts out fine, but gets progressively slow and sluggish in as little as an hour, hour and a half. Further along into my browsing session, Firefox also loses functions. Some of the drop down menus don't drop down anymore, the save image or copy post functions stop working, etc. The browser is also constantly crashing and hanging.

I've been restarting my PC about three or four times a day because restarting seems to refresh my browser function and give me a clean slate. But only for like an hour or so. Then right back to sluggy and crashy. Right now, as I'm typing this post, it takes each character I type about two seconds to appear on the screen. The same problems persist in safe mode.

I surfed the help sites and learned that it's a common problem among Firefox users. Also the self-help suggestions posted on those forums are usually poorly written, almost impossible to follow and even then, written for someone who would have to have a Ph.D in computers to understand the advice. And the advice never even seems to apply. I like when some poster tells you to do this and then hit that option or drop down menu, and you follow the advice and the option or drop down menu isn't even available on your PC.
