That happens so damn much. A story out of Florida in recent weeks has been about a boy pimped out by his mom to star in gay porn in order to pay the rent. I want to blame the increasing normalization of the sex industry, but clearly that's just one of many factors. Such unholy hateful business.

You are right Edgy, and sadly (I fear) we are getting closer to a generation that thinks this expoitation is regular, not shocking at all. Not all of the generation, of course, but enough young people that will keep it flourishing.

I think a lot of us don't know when we're being exploited. Does a fish know it's wet? Then there's the whole moral relativism thing. When the president's Secret Service contingent was busted for sex with underage prostitutes, scolds everywhere were arguing that we needed to get over private moral issues and let men get their game on, and let prostitutes work for their living. As if they were all happy consenting adults improving their lifestyles. I work in this field. Between the economy forcing horrible choices on people, corridors of human trafficking becoming avenues of sex trafficking, and the moral detachment one can achieve through the electronic marketplace, the reality is that this is a growing problem. In the US alone, hundreds of thousands of children are prostituted every year, with at least 10% of the prostituting done by parents. And for the remaining amount, clearly their parents and communities have failed them terribly. There are many reports of virginity auctions. There's also this moral switch sometimes in the pedophile's head that if a parent consents to him having sex with their child, that somehow it's OK. It's not.

It follows that pedophiles spend a lot of time attempting to rationalize their behavior, doesn't it, considering the alternative-- that what they do, what they are, is simultaneously an integral part of them and so repugnant that there is NO place for it in polite human society. Hell, sometimes a man aren't even safe pursuing his aberrant sexual urges in his own home... and he's got to take not-at-all-misguided action, consarnit.

If the article's summation of his argument is accurate, it appears-- appears-- to be an oblique criticism of marriage equality. Which, y'know, is kinda rich, considering his judgement regarding partners/keeping a marriage going.

Deputies say Pamela Doster and her husband Michael Doster were at Passage Key last weekend when Pamela witnessed Michael having a sexual encounter with another man, leading to the dispute. According to the affidavit, Pamela attempted to get onto a jet ski but her husband reached around, grabbed her by the hair, and pulled her into the water. She returned to the jet ski, and he pulled her off the same way again. In all, Pamela told deputies this happened four times... Pamela then returned to sand bar, and soon Michael could not find her. Later in the night, he called 9-1-1 and rescue crews found her completely nude except for her life jacket. Passage Key is off the northern tip of Anna Maria Island and a beach that nudists are known to frequent. Officials say both Pamela and Michael were intoxicated.
