2014 IPP: Travis d'Arnaud

It was moderately popular last year, so we'll try it again this year. IPP stands for Individual Player Predictions. These will be threads where we share our expectations of how a player will perform in the current year. Feel free to make your predictions as specific or as vague as you like. (You can find a listing of the 2013 IPPs here.) Travis d'Arnaud had a bit of seasoning in the big leagues last year, and is still eligible for Rookie of the Year in 2014. It would be fun to have a contender in that category. The Mets haven't had a top rookie since the back-to-back wins of Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden in 1983 and 1984. I doubt that it will happen though. The buzz is that Travis needs to break out in a big way this year, but I don't think he will, and that won't necessarily be a disaster. Assuming he stays reasonably healthy, I think he'll hit about 10 homers, .250.

I would take any of these predictions. I'm a bit more pessimistic. .240 BA, .320 OBP, 11 HR, 75 RBI

I bet my brother-in-law that he'd hit 15 homers, so he'd better. .255 16-55. Nothing flashy, but good enough.

Higher on the contact skillz than the powa. .277 / .336 / .399 // .735. 11 homers. Power will come, but probably not in year one. I invented this exercise, but I hate it. Any time I post sober thoughts, I want to beat myself up. Fman has the right spirit with this. .364, 39 homers, 134 RBI, adopts a dog off of death row, hits the gossip pages with Jennifer Lawrence, writes a bestselling book of poetry, solves the D.B. Cooper case, and publishes an unimpeachable exposé of Derek Jeter's PED use. Travis d'Arnaud will bring industry back to AMERICA. (This will be in year two, however.)

Travis will spend emough time in the minors to miss all projections. Sandy never planned for this event unless Taylor Teagarden is your guy...

I'd also like to retroactively predict that Darryl Strawberry will return to the minors after his slow start in 1983 and spend a good chunk of the season down there. #GoMikeHoward!
