MLB on FOX 2014

Bad news for Gary, Keith & Ron: they will only have one Saturday off in 2014. FOX has released the schedule for Saturday games and the Mets will only be on one time. FOX is splitting the schedule, and in some cases the day, with FOX Sports 1, and the big market Mets will only make one appearance.

The entire schedule is here: http://static.foxsports.com/content/fsc ... 808826.pdf (note that FOX won't have a game until May 24th).

According to The Big Lead, it takes two analysts to replace Tim McCarver as Joe Buck will be joined by Harold Reynolds and Tom ("I Love Joe Torre") Verducci.

The Mets Saturday is:
Saturday, July 5
4:00 PM ET – FOX Sports 1
Arizona Diamondbacks at Atlanta Braves
7:00 PM ET – FOX
Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox
Texas Rangers at New York Mets
San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres

Good news for those of us who live outside of New York: the exclusivity blackout has been lifted so if the FOX game is not shown in your local market, you can still see it on mlb.tv and Extra Innings.

From the 506.com message board:

Re: MLB on FOX 2014

wow, 7 for the Pirates. I don't think I checked Fox, but I made an attempt at checking ESPN Sunday Night and I think the Pirates had been on it roughly once in 15 years, and never at PNC.

I forget though, can Fox flex and choose additional games?

They did that last year so I think so. I also think that if FOX asked Selig to put Ryan Seacrest's face on home plate, he'd do it.

When we've got a fifteen game-lead in mid-July, all of a sudden every Saturday is going to be a FOX METS SATURDAY.

And yet the WPIX games, I am guessing, will continue to be blacked out in Syracuse, despite my cable carrier not offering me that channel. And FIOS will continue to fuck me in my baseball hole until I switch back to Time Warner.

which is about to be bought out by Comcast* at which point it'll be their turn to fuck you in your baseball hole.

* Maybe anyway; buyout process still in the early stages, may be derailed by anti-trust concerns.

You don't want Comcast - trust me on that.

Re: MLB on FOX 2014

SI.com has learned that Burkhardt has been chosen as the main host for Fox and Fox Sports 1's MLB pregame show, an assignment that includes the regular-season, All-Star Game, playoffs and World Series. Burkhardt is expected to work with Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas (who signed last month with Fox Sports), Fox Sports 1's Gabe Kapler, and a rotation of other analysts. On Sunday, a Fox Sports spokesperson declined comment on Burkhardt and other baseball-related questions

If Burkhardt ends up on "Fox & Friends", I'm gonna be pissed.

Well, not 'Fox & Friends' (except maybe for a promotional appearance or two) but, to no one's surprise, Kevin will be leaving SNY when his contract is up at the end of this season -- see today's NY Post -- and has already signed a three-year deal with FOX TV starting in 2015, a deal which will include "various sports duties" including baseball, the NFL, and college basketball and will require him to relocate out to the west coast.

Certainly not surprising. IIRC SNY already prevented him from leaving once although in recent years has been more amenable to 'lending him out' to do network stuff.
I'm generally not big on sideline reporters (in any sport really) but he's probably the only one I ever thought added anything of significance that the average viewer couldn't have come up with on his own.
SNY will obviously be trying out replacements as the season goes on, particularly as KB works fewer games due to growing outside gigs. Or maybe they've already settled on one, although if they have it's not going too well because I've quickly forgotten each and every one who's subbed in, including the ones just from the last week or two. They've seemed to steer clear of the babe route that many teams like to use, although if it's going to be someone who just gives you the routine junk, it might as well be a hot babe.

Yeah, gimme the hot babe over Martino or Eamon ..Maca..something. or whoever else they've tried out so far.

The relocating to the west coast seems to imply this is a studio gig, no? A network NFL/MLB play by play guy wouldn't need to have a home base, I don't think.

Re: MLB on FOX 2014

He's already doing FOX's pre-game stuff for Saturday baseball -- it's been running on their FOX SPORTS1 cable outlet so far -- so, yeah, I expect there'll be some of that in the future too.
Probably get one of the Saturday GotW for baseball (love it if they'd give him the top job and let Buck go back to preparing for football games in July) and game of the wherever in football.
Hope he was able to keep his contract from committing himself to FOX's new found love of human cockfighting.

It is early .. but Kevin is on track to possibly be the face of the entire Fox Sports Network one day..

And we knew him when...

Considering how fast he rose in the past season calling NFL games, I tend to agree.

Don't think Burkhardt will be stopping by much in the future.
