The Face Race

In a goofy contest flying around social media, that, if you're like me, you noticed but couldn't be bothered to care, David Wright has vanquished all pretenders and has been crowned The Face of MLB.

Deadspin, with little evidence, but lots of rumor and innuendo, which are... types of evidence, is suggesting the victory was maybe rigged.

Ashamed to admit that I did quite a bit of retweeting.

Not ashamed to admit I did the same. I kept it to retweets because you'll only see one if you follow both of us, but hell, most twitter clients support muting/blocking hashtags so I don't really feel bad about it.

Y'all kids and got nothing to be ashamed of. You re-tweet all you want.

This kind of shit really makes me feel old. I mean, I kind of know what it means, but at the same time, it sounds like a lot of gibberish.

Same here. There's an active thread in the non-baseball forum about this product Rdio -- some internet music thing. I have no idea what they're talking about. Is it internet radio? Internet for your car radio? Music from the internet through your PC speakers? Smartphone? I don't know anymore. I can't read those twitter messages either. It looks like secret code to me, with all the special characters. And when did the pound key tic tac toe symbol become known as a hash tag?

I felt stupid and manipulated but didn't want to see David Wright lose another meaningless popularity contest. I probably did 8 or 10 retweets and 2 originals overall.

Me too. I want this fucking team to win SOMETHING, even if it's just a stupid internet contest. Besides, who the fuck is Eric Sogard?

And one of my original witticisms got RTed 27 times, so that was neat.

Re: The Face Race

There was an episode of Cheers in which Diane Chambers dismissed a Boston's Best Barmaid contest as so much sexist claptrap -- until she won and squealed with delight.

This was kinda like that.

The whole point behind the Sogard thing was that this sort of thing is STUPID; it's a protest vote.

Call me too cool for school, but I didn't retweet a thing. (Also, my smartphone's broken, so that helps.)

Re: The Face Race

So what's this all mean? Are they going to do something with his face like in the case of The Face Of BOE?
Are they going to take his face and put it on display!?!?!

Will he be on the cover of all the baseball video games this season? What's it mean?

Oh, and gratz Mr. Wright.
