OH,OH!

You don't go for that extra base off Lagares.
Simmons out going 1st to third on a single to short right center.

Medlen hurt? Shoot, I wasn't paying attention. Looks like Medlen was removed due to injury.

Medlen walks off mound after two uncomfortable

Grabbed his elbow. Then threw a pitch and walked right off the mound and removed himself.

Not good for him.

Re: SIGT-Mets chop up the Braves

WHOA! Brown just threw a Brave out at the plate with a perfect peg after charging in on a single.
Close play at the plate leaves no lane but the ball arrives just ahead of the runner. Bang,Bang!

I remember seeing that happen to fireballer Steve Dalkowsi in a spring training game against the MFYs. (IIRC the batter was Elston Howard).
Dalkowski never pitched again.

Damn.

Mets broke it open last inning, 8-1. I was afk, not sure what happened.

Parnell on for the 9th.

GJ Parnell! He wasn't sharp but he didn't grab his neck at all. His last pitch was a beaut.

MLB.TV won't cooperate. It keeps starting the game over from the beginning when I jump to a late inning.

Re: SIGT-Mets chop up the Braves

Finally played.

Big bunt single by Seratelli that the Braves pitcher threw into right allowing denDekker to score.
Braves left fielder Joey Terd{..} dropped a shallow routine fly to left.

Kevin Plawecki ripped a double all the way to the wall down the left field line. Muno, and a hustling Puuello both score.

Braves Brandon Allen makes a very Murphish error and Plawecki scored.

den Dekker triples down the right field line. The right fielder bobbled the ball, picked it up and dropped it, fell on his ass, kicked it away, and then chased after it (a little embellishment there but not much). Clark scored.

Some good hitting, some very sloppy fielding.

Damn.

He got most of that right. Dalkowski did get hurt in Spring against the Yankees, but accounts --- including his own --- disagree on whether it was pitching or making a throw to first. He did pitch again, through 1965, but his legendary heater was gone.

Read High Heat for wealth of Dalkowski material.

Re: SIGT-Mets chop up the Braves

I saw the game on tv. He grabbed his arm and walked off the mound after throwing a pitch that missed everything by a mile. I was paying attention to the game because he was famous in the minors for having great strikeout and walk numbers and this was the first time he was on tv.
If he was throwing it to first, maybe that was an indication of his legendary lack of control. Or, something just snapped in the middle of his delivery. But it was closer to home than to first.

Re: SIGT-Mets chop up the Braves

Perhaps the injury initially occurred during the throw to first, and he came to know the extent of it when he delivered a subsequent pitch. I certainly believe your account.

The throw-to-first account was supposedly with Jim Bouton running, but that may just be Bouton talking.

Scene from today's game: Fred Wilpon, building bridges.

In between two days of YoungerPooper birthday festivities, watched a little of both weekend games... and it seemed every time I looked up, Lagares was doing something mildly-positive (singling)-to-excellent (throwing out Simmons at third today).
