Rin Tin Tin would be more macho, but Lassie works. It was an ok book, not sure it's movie worthy though.

Here's a good question --- is Dickey done? Like Go to Hell, Mike Piazza, this could be one of those sports-themed movies that gets scrapped during development due to the subject's rapid decline.
