I dont know how this will work.
Ill let it evolve.

What [u:bab86cd54f]Im[/u:bab86cd54f] gonna try to do is pick a Met player and during the week post my favorite pictures of that player.
Ill try and provide real good quality images for collecting.

Feel free to join me, or post a choice of your own.

The bottomline, this should be a kool Met picture thread.

Ill start off with a player who we sadly had to say goodbye to in 2005, Donn Clendenon.

* Don't mind me, I'm just being an ass again. I'm just pissed about having to work when it's 60 degrees and sunny outside. Damn food and shelter keeps messing up my fun.

This week is Mike Piazza, who we will be saying goodbye to as a Met player. At least thats what eveybody keeps sayin.
But he has yet to find a new home.

Im sure to infringe in some way, shape or form with Mikes pictures, but lets just keep that amongst us Met fans.
I hope others will contribute during this week.
I will try to avoid using any DGW pics,as I do believe they are denoted in the file names, but if I should slip, please let me slide, Iubitul.

Y' know, Zvon, that lighting makes Piazza look a little Christ-like, don't you think? The halo effect of it, the gazing off into the distance, the patient endurance in his expression, even the beard...I wonder if he wasn't the reincarnation of Jesus on earth, after all.

Here is the bit from the News in Mets notes...

]

Samuel to helm Double-A squad

The principal in one of the most unpopular trades in Mets history is rejoining the organization. Juan Samuel has been named manager of Double-A Binghamton.
Samuel, who coached third base for the Tigers last season, is slated to be joined on the B-Mets staff by ex-Met John Valentin as hitting coach and Mark Brewer as pitching coach.

Obtained from the Phillies for Lenny Dykstra and Roger McDowell on June 18, 1989, Samuel hit .228 with three homers in 333 at-bats as a Met. He signed with the Dodgers as a free agent that winter.

Ex-'86 Mets Mookie Wilson and Tim Teufel, who managed at the Single-A level last year, have left the organization. Wally Backman had expressed interest in the Binghamton job.

Along with my new computer I have a new printer/scanner I just installed today and got to test it out on this picture of Mookie Wilson:

This is from the Mets annual exhibition game against the Tides at Harbor Park in 1998. In the late innings, then Mets coach Mookie Wilson got an at bat much to the crowds' approval, although sadly the Mookster struck out (he still looked pretty darn fit though). I took this with a point and shoot camera, nothing fancy like Iubitul has, but had pretty good seats behind home plate so Mookie still comes out decently well.

Edgy DC
Jan 30 2006 12:48 AM

The bat's almost invisible.

I was scratching my head to come up with a Buffalo/Indianapolis game that would have Mookie and Edgardo on the same team.

Great shot. Could be bigger.

You're not far off Edgy. A few years ago when those papier mache cows were on display all throughout the City there was a blurb in the New York Times about how there was one cow called the 'Moo-kie' Cow that was decorated in a Mets uniform with Mookie's No.1 on it. It was displayed outside Shea stadium and when Mookie Wilson saw it he was not amused and asked that it be removed. Simply put he said he was not asked and 'did not approve'. He went on to say that 'people come up to me all the time and say 'I named my dog after you' or 'I named my cat after you'. I'm like, well that's your dog or your cat, don't expect me to feel honored.'

I thought it was pretty funny 'cause, well, I named my dog after him. I cut out the article, laminated it and it is on father-in-law's fridge as we speak.

great pics!

Last time I saw Buddy was afew years ago in AC when he was manager of that minor league BB team from Long Island. They were playing the AC Surf.

I hung out after the game and saw Bud about to head thru the tunnel.
I was like "Hey Buddy!"
And he looked up and says "Hi!"

And I didnt know what to say.
I never had these kind of problems when I was a kid with players or celebs, but here I was tongue tied.

So blurt out, " You still playin the guitar?!?"
He says " Yea! You play?"
So I go " Yea."
"What kind a stuff do you play?" he asks.
Im like OMG this is gonna turn into a conversation....
I got all deer in the headlights.
I say," a lila this, a lil a that, ya know Beatles, Dave Matthews...."
And he must have seen how nervous Im sure I suddenly looked.
This was the same guy who gave me my 1st autograph in '71.
I was like frozen.
He goes " Thats great," and he gives a wave and says," Cya around, " and proceeds down the tunnel.

I really think he woulda stayed there and talked if it wasnt for this look of frozen blank stupidity that overtook my face.
I was really pissed at myself for chokin up like that.
But it was Buddy!

I just got a DVD copy of their very first US concert in Washington DC,1964.
And there is truth to your statement about people not having a clue how to properly set up for such a large event in tose days.
But the Beatles actually did have a clue, as I saw when they took the stage for the Washington show and proceeded to manually reset the entire stage. It was amazing to see, the biggest band in the world doing doing their own roadie work. They even took the entire drum kit and totally turned it around so it faced the same way the amps were. And, considering all the sound problems (the crowd, mic levels not balanced) they encountered right off the bat, they sounded alot better than I would have thought. They opened with I Saw Her Standing There, and I think it sounded better than thier studio version.

Yea. It was finished.
Hosted the '64 AllStar game.

But they did make some changes and additions (like the plexiglass outfield bullpen section of the fence), that ended up being the way Shea looked for many years, until the overhaul in the early 80's.
Thats when they changed the color of the big scoreboard and the outfield walls to blue.

That big square thing on top of the scoreboard with the Met logo in it- that was supposed to be a screen where a slide show showing the current batter was supposed to be displayed.
I dont know if they ever got that to actually work (never saw it in use myself), but I was up in there (in the scoreboard) in the early 70's and it contained the remains of a humongous revolving slide show projector.

Under what circumstances were you in the Mets scoreboard?

Me and a buddy hid in a closed concession stand after a game until the place cleared out.
Then we snuck out onto the field.
There were these people sweepin the isles and stuff, but they paid us no mind.
The lights were down and they looked like zombies.

We ran around the field (there was a tarp over the plate, which was a bummer-but we slide into second!),
went into the dugout (there was this lil creeky catwalk back down those steps to the tunnel to the clubhouse),
climbed up into the scoreboard (there was a ladder near one of its legs.).

We explored the place for some time.
The actual door to the clubhouse, in this horseshoe tunnel runing under the seats, was locked.

Had a ball that night.
Eddie! If you ever read this, its me!
Warren!

Earlier in the thread we did Buddy Harrelson week
and alot of pics from the Harrelson/Rose fight were posted.

As a matter of fact, I thought at this point I had seen all photos available of the event.

So how about this:

While I was in Vegas this past weekend Pete Rose was there siging autographs. They were selling B&W photos of the famous Pete & Bud fight.

Rose was signing them 'He won the game, I won the fight - Pete Rose'

I got mine signed,

He won the game, is also still eligible to hold a job in Major League Baseball, appear in uniform on the field, or be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I won the fight.

I know, right?

What sort of surprised me though was that Joe Montana was signing at the table next to Rose.

A little self-indulgence for those who wanted Carter to be wearing a Met Cap in Cooperstown!

Next to it (both are to your extreme left when you step out of the elevator) is a HOF style plaque honoring Bob Murphy on his retirement

And of course out in LF there is this marker honoring where Tommie Agee hit one of the longest HR balls in Shea's history (not sure if its still the record)

We're gonna need a bigger boat!

Yup, this takes up the ENTIRE RF Auxillary scoreboard wall.

Course we could always ditch the 88 and 99 pennants and just keep the pennants for years we won the NL Championship
