Bode, Bode, Bode

Will Bode Miller lose his place on the US Ski Team because of sponsor horror over his revelations of misconduct on 60 Minutes? According to one sponsor source, "What Miller revealed is not being a rebel; it's failing to live up to the responsibility that comes with being a public figure."

What I want to know is: What's the difference?

It'ss all such bullshit, I watched 60 minutes and found nothing really bad in what he said, what we learned was that Bode likes a drink and at times has been half drunk on the slopes, big deal.

From my POV, if you're standing on top of a 5,000 foot mountain getting ready to slide down it at over 60 MPH, drinking is sound preparation.

He could write a book about that and get in the Oprah Book Club.

Very true ' 62, I read that even if he were kicked of the US team he could go as an independent, is that true, is that even possible.

Hell, I've never been on a ski slope in my life. I could write a book about that and get in the Oprah Book Club.

Well, skiing impaired is pretty friggin' dangerous in and of itself. The problem is that he's got a large following of kids especially in Europe who think he is just the dog's balls.

If kids start thinking 'Geez, Bode skis drunk/stoned and he's fantastique!' that really would not be a good thing ya know? So I can see why there's been such an uproar.

As I understand it though - and I didn't see the 60 minutes piece - he didn't admit to skiing drunk what he said was that he had partied late into the night and then had to get up and ski fairly early. Basically he admitted to skiing hungover. While that is also a form of impairment it ain't exactly the same as skiing drunk.

As to what happens if he gets kicked off the team - he can still qualify and represent the U.S. he just won't have the financial backing and benefit of quality training that being on the U.S. ski team would afford him.

All true soupcan but I don't think this is causing any stir in Europe, as for his training he doesn't train with the US team , he does his own thing.

Well,as Gene Hackman said in "Downhill Racer," "It's not really a team sport, is it?"

Well, Miller's parents were hippies. I've often wondered if they named him after Vaughan Bode.
