Re: IGT, Game 8, 4/9 NYM@ATL

Is there anyone else walking past the stadium in Atlanta that they'd like to sign so he can come in and toss a shutout? The peanut vendor maybe?
I know it's only the 2nd week but, after losing Hudson to FA, they lose two more starters in ST plus have a couple more still on the mend from last year, and yet their starting staff is currently leading the majors in lowest ERA, OBA, and WHiP

Re: IGT, Game 8, 4/9 NYM@ATL

Well they finally got Heyward out.
But I think that's only because he was secretly replaced between innings by Justin Heyward and, seeing as how the former front of the Moody Blues has got to be nearly 70 y/o by now, getting him out isn't all that impressive. Plus he's English and probably never even played baseball.

That stuff will drive ya crazy.

Saw the first few innings. Didn't think Ervin could keep it up.

Has Santana been pitching that good or are we doing some extra sucking at the plate?

Of COURSE Lannan gave up the leadoff hit. I was wary of his soft-tossing, MFY-loving ass before ST, I was wary of it at the end of ST, and I'm about sick of it two weeks in. He's had one half-decent year in his career, pitches to loud contact, and is a low-strikeout/highish-walk dude. What's not to love? What I'm trying to say is, JOHN LANNAN MAKES ME INTO ASHIE.

And in other shouty news, GONZALEZ GERMEN ONLY MAKES LOUD OUTS AND STRIKEOUTS!

Accentuating the positive, though... how about my boy I'm-Still-Calling-Him-HYOO-Rees, with two runnerless, bang-on-the-table-for-some losing-effort Schaeffer frames?

And I do like those glimpses of the Braves HoF, with the simulated-locker thing for your Horners and Murphys. Something like that might be a decent way to repurpose the CitiField Steiner Brothers Memorial Used Batting Helmet Room.

Well it's not like Santana is a bad pitcher or anything, but the Braves were forced into having 3 of their first 8 games started by guys who weren't even employed by a major league team three weeks ago and all they've done so far is give up 1 run over 21 innings

Yeah, just Brown, Quinty & Recker left. I don't think Brown has even put his uniform on since that 2nd game, tho he was on deck for the pitcher.

With all due respect to Tejada's redeeming first few games, this team could use a shortstop who can also lead off; and a lefthanded relief pitcher who's tough on lefties. Hafta believe an Ike-Gregoriuos-etc deal will still happen, probably after the weekend.

Tejada's had a fine start to the season though, and is probably as good a leadoff option as we have.

He's probably the best hitter of the remaining guys on the bench there too. Most likely to make contact and get the ball in play. If it was tying run on first, or at the plate, then maybe consider the feast or famine Brown and Recker. And if they're all spent and you've already used Jon Niese, then you can try 0.

Yeah, as sad as it is to say, Ruben's probably the best play there.

Re: IGT, Game 8, 4/9 NYM@ATL

Why did TC use Ike in the 8th, down 4-0, 2 out, no one on? He was the best (only?) lefty PH available and he has power so he should have been saved for a more critical situation (which obviously arose). If it was 1-0 in the 8th, fine but not 4-0, no one on.

OK, somehow I missed this. I guess he was swapped out to get Niese back in.
This is the second time I've called for Wilmer to PH - the first was when Ike hit the GS

So, given the REAL options at that point, Terry's choices are essentially Ruben then Brown for the pitcher (what he actually did), or PH Brown for Ruben then Q for the pitcher
Pretty much a coin flip though I think he made the right choice there: stick with the less K-like Ruben for the tie then hope Brown could run into one and maybe put up a crooked number with one swing.

I'll just go back to being stupid now.

we needed someone to ground out on the first pitch, didn't you watch?

Seriously, I don't think you go with Quintanilla on the off-chance the Mets load the bases in the 9th. If Ike goes yard in his turn in the 8th we tie it without him anyway, all else being equal, which it wouldn't be.

Down by 4, on the road, 2 outs, bases empty, 8th inning isn't an ideal situation for any pinch hitter.

He should the the 'new regular' in the sense that he should start the next 4 (maybe 1 for Satin) games there because he's the better defender and let Duda DH.

Looks like 2 lefties in Anaheim this weekend actually. Mets should wear Brown Satin for those.
