IGT, Game 10, 4/11 NYM@LA (Gee vs. Skaggs)

Oh yea, I get to do this.

I love late night games.

The Mets and Angels have split 12 all-time meetings, but New York has won four of six in Anaheim.

Anaheim road trips bring back some of my most favorite Mets memories of all time, and the greatest tabloid overreaction in franchise history.

Scott Boras hanging out in the dark behind the home-plate-area screen has a very Emperor Palpatine-ish vibe going on.

The sweep of that Skaggs curve, man. It's like it takes you on a meandering tour of Orange County, then loops back around to Santa Monica and Venice, all between the mound and home.

Yeah, Wright let himself get screened. He's got to be positioned on the inside part of the bag there.

Whether it holds up, I don't know, but Tejada saved a run by getting the lead runner (Cowtown) on the Aybar grounder.

Yeah, well, Farnsworth's fastball right now is, like, the antithesis of that.

Even when Tejada is making plays at SS he's often not making them cleanly.
He's rapidly becoming the king of turning 'maybe' GiDPs into 'no-shot' GiDPs either by backing up on the ball, making a slow transfer, or making a sloppy flip.

But over-aggressive is what he certainly has NOT been so far this season. More like a guy who's so afraid of making a mistake that he's content just to get one out and doesn't even try for two.

I meant aggressive in the sense that like that last play when it was maybe wise while running for a dribbler to just take the safe play at first, still flips off-balance to second. or throwing to third the other day. It's gutsy and aggressive. He's never had the greatest hands, part of what makes him only an average SS defensively.

Going to 2nd was the right move there, he just didn't do so very well.

This vision thing? Our on-field managers, they do not have this vision thing.

And sadly my one game run comes to an end.

I don't think I've ever won two in a row.

Hell, I gave up when Gee gave up the homer to tie it. Glad I didn't torture myself for an extra five innings.

West coast games suck.

NYM pitchers walked TEN in this game (OK two were intentional, but still) and famously plunked one to boot, while NYM batters walked nonce.
Considering that, plus the fact that LAA left 17 on base while Met LOBsters were just four, it's probably lucky (or maybe just more frustrating) that the game was as close or as long as it was.

I'm taking the blame for that one. I invoked "Homer at the Bat" after yesterday's game, and BAM! walkoff-hit-by-pitch.

Gee can't be giving back two leads a night, no matter how lucky the rest of the guys get.
