'Tain't the Bullpen

Mets offense after first week:

18th in runs scored with 21

30th in avg at .178

30th in OBP at .251

21st in SLG at .346

27th in OPS .597

No bullpen can get that sort of load over the hump.

I'm encouraged with the HRs though, and once/if d'Arnaud starts hitting them and C. Young comes back I think we'll be able to score some more regularly. Also, we should trade for Gregorius and make him the leadoff hitter

David Wright not really doing great yet, so expect that to regress upward.

It'd be nice if either Eric Young or d'Arnaud became not-sinkholes soon though.

Yeah, I don't mean to imply that the offense needs to be blown up or anything, only that they've been mostly a load thus far.

Yes, April homers can be encouraging in Citi Field. I'd still like to to talk to some mathematicians and climatologists to find out what happened to dArnaud's shot yesterday. He absolutely punished that ball.

I was half-watching, playing a game with my daughter on the floor in front of the TV. Gary's call made us both jump; I was stunned it didn't go out.

I was sure that was gone too.
Sometimes batters hit those with a top-spin that makes the ball dive downward rather than with backspin that tends to keep them aloft longer. d'Arnaud has a record of decent power in the minors so I don't mean to imply this will be an ongoing problem although some players keep that trait their whole careers.

Yeah, I mentioned in the game thread. It was a high pitch that he kind of tomahawked, so it may have taken a topspin dive at the end.
