All of that was beautiful, even that ugly-ass turf. 6 shutouts and 300K's at AA. Sonofabitch. PS - what the eff brand cleats is Doc wearing??

Most of the Mets were wearing Pony at the time, but I don't think he is.

Hard to believe that Dwight Gooden's debut takes you 3/4 of the way to Aaron's record-breaking homer.

Not AA -- A.

I think those are Brooks cleats.

I think Dickie Thon gets it in the face from Mike Torrez the very next night.

Funny to hear both guys in the booth referring to "Billy DOR-an." Seemed in the Mets booth, his whole career, he was "Billy Dor-AN."

Doc in the rare Mets road blues.

I was at Gooden's Shea debut against the Expos a few weeks later. It was a weekday day-game, crappy weather, rain threatening day. It probably drizzled a bit, too. We go to Shea without any tickets, and go up to one of those old brick kiosk ticket booths that weren't physically connected to the stadium, but were spread out around the Shea perimeter. And we ask the clerk for the best seats available -- this was about 10 or 15 minutes before the first pitch. And he gives us tickets on field level, behind home plate, under the screen. A different world. And those tickets weren't price-tiered or gold-gamed, either. They cost the same as a field level box seat in the right field corner.
