Mets Get Into that Liverpool/Crane Pool Swing of Things

The Mets celebrate the 50th anniversary of Shea Stadium by rolling back ticket prices for this weekend's series against the Braves to $3.50 -- the price of a 1964 field level box seat. In this 2014 version of $3.50 seats, you get to sit in the Outfield Promenade, 550 feet away from home plate and three zip codes farther away than from a 1964 $3.50 field level Shea box. What? You thought the Mets weren't gonna adjust for inflation when they rolled back their prices?

You can't sit wherever you want with an outfield promenade ticket -- you especially can't sit where the equivalent of Shea's 1964 $3.50 seats are. And your condiment comments misses the point of my original post. But if you insist on taking my post literally to poke holes in it, you could calculate inflation according to the Consumer Price Index, to determine that $3.50 today is about 46 cents in 1964 money. And 46 cents in 1964 would've probably put a baseball fan in the outfield bleachers -- not that Shea had outfield bleachers, let alone outfield bleachers three or four levels up, although the farthest reaches of the upper deck did extend beyond the foul poles and into fair territory -- but a fair exchange nonetheless. Of course, I don't see my little joke as being flawed. If there's any flaw, it's with the Mets equating a $3.50 outfield promenade seat today with a 1964 $3.50 field level box seat.

All I meant was that $3.50 gains you entry into the stadium.

Even in freezing, why-are-we-out-here conditions, the ushers tend to check tickets. I have a feeling this might have something to do with propping up what should be especially slow Easter Weekend business.
