So far we're making their rookie pitcher look like Cy Young....

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 21 2014 05:44 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Who the hell bats Granderson-- nevermind struggling Granderson-- second against a lefty?
|
Edgy MD Apr 21 2014 05:57 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Nah. The notion is that number two guys get strikes to swing at.

Actually, that was the same notion that had Jerry-Jerry batting Duda second, so... .

I was afraid he was going to rush that throw and heave it into the stands even though, with Yadier running, he still had like fifteen minutes to spare.

Well, sure, Peralta can turn double plays fine when you hit it right at him, Eyebrows.
|
Edgy MD Apr 21 2014 06:08 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Hard to imagine a MORE tailor-made double play ball than that what was just hit by Satin, huh?
|
Zvon Apr 21 2014 06:10 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Satin was running slower than Harper there on that DP.
|
Edgy MD Apr 21 2014 06:13 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Slow or fast. That grounder would have doubled up a 20-year-old Mickey Mantle. Didn't notice that he dogged it, though.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 21 2014 06:17 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Considering how many hits we tagged offa Joe Anonymous over here the second time around the order, you'd think we'd have brought home more than a run.

An inning with two walks, two singles, an error, and two fly balls should result in more than one run.

Effectiveness against Metly bats aside, I like that he's in our league now, because that means I get to see Pat Neshek do his thing a little more often. He's fun to look'it.

Thanks, and I peeked: To make room on the roster, the Mets have optioned outfielder Andrew Brown to Triple-A Las Vegas. The 29-year-old has gone 5 for 27 (.185) with one homer in 10 games this season. Yea, Brown needs at bats. 2 out. Fast game.

yes, by all means, lets cycle through retreads while we're up to our armpits in talented minor league arms. After all, its not as if using young starters out of the pen ever works, either in bolstering the pen or in developing the arms as eventual major league pitchers. Surely no lesson can be drawn in this regard from our current opponents in St.L, who've seemed to have done this expertly.

This was standard operating procedure for any Earl Weaver team. His rookie pitchers generally worked their way into the starting rotation through the bullpen. If it was good enough for Earl ....

Edgy MD Apr 22 2014 12:27 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Who is being advocated for here? deGrom? Montero? Syndergaard?
|
Ceetar Apr 22 2014 12:32 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
The Cardinals brought up Michael Wacha last year, he made a few starts, they transitioned him to the bullpen a little, and then they put him back in the rotation. Haven't we been down on that in-out type stuff?
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 22 2014 05:23 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
|
The issue with Mejia-to-the-pen, IIRC, was that he was a superyoung, still-developing arm... and that he was being asked to pitch differently than he would as a starter. According to public statements, Jerry specifically asked him to deemphasize the secondary pitches which would make him a workable starting pitcher in order to help the Mets here-and-now. Mejia was being steered into the pen as an end, not as a let's-try-this-for-now-while-we-work-on-the-other-thing experiment. Germen and Familia, in the Mets' mind (and the minds of most who watch 'em, honestly), have their futures out beyond the fence in right-center; I don't think anyone's got an issue with their usage.
|
Edgy MD Apr 22 2014 05:28 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
I never had the idea that it was an end.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Apr 22 2014 06:24 PM Re: IGT 4/21/14 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Military Mets |
Well, assuming you're right... asking him to "just throw the fastball" when he needs to develop the other pitches and pitch sequencing if he's to become anything other than a short reliever was/is about the most short-sighted way possible to employ the bullpen-as-on-the-job-learning-environment, isn't it?
