Happy Larry Elliot Day

This guy wasn't so bad for a rookie, and went through an unbelievably hot stretch in late July hitting home runs in four straight games and 5 in 6 -- but after he was beaned in a baserunning mishap he didn't play much again. Actually left the organization for a year but was back on the big-league roster in 1967 where he was traded for what is probably the greatest living Met connection to Jackie Robinson.

Long live #42!!

Thanks for the link-out.

Larry had one of the best-composed card photos in Mets history. Could his eyes have been more blue?

Aaron Heilman filed a one-hitter on this day in 2005.

I just realized that the low-frills card design makes it look like his name is "Larry Elliot Outfield."

Maybe one of the faux-card specialists can add
that to his signature!

Celebrating some other Mets 42's in The Man From Topps style because, really, if youse haven't already run out of things to write about Larry Elliot, you'll run out of things to write about Larry Elliot in about another minute.

Painted Taylors. Chuck and Ron wore the forty deuce for the Mets, and were once even traded for each other in a non-Mets deal.

Clearly Chuck Taylor miscast as a ballplayer. The guy looks like a character in a Western.

Looks like Topps touched up Taylor's lip chancre at the finishing stage.
