"Watch out for those burgers, kids!"

NEW YORK -- Philadelphia Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg and New York Mets first baseman Lucas Duda both came down with food poisoning over the weekend at Citi Field, and both said Tuesday that they believe a hamburger from Shake Shack was the cause.

Sandberg told reporters in Philadelphia that he lost 6 pounds in two days.

"A couple of coaches took a bite and didn't like what they saw and threw the rest away," Sandberg said. "I was in a rush so I ended up putting it away.

"I had one piece of toast in two days, and I'm feeling fine about that. I don't want anything in my stomach."

Duda was hospitalized Friday afternoon and later blamed an undercooked hamburger. He confirmed Tuesday at Yankee Stadium that the burger also came from Shake Shack.

But a Mets spokesman insisted the hamburger Duda cited came from another Shake Shack location besides Citi Field.

Duda missed Friday night's game against the Phillies but was able to return to the Mets' lineup Saturday and has played every game since then.

A Mets official said the team is investigating the matter.

"The first we heard of this situation was about an hour ago via Twitter," said Greg Waters, senior manager for marketing and communications with Shake Shack. "We're attempting to get in touch with Ryne Sandberg to learn more. At this point we have no further knowledge of the situation, and there have been no other related reports whatsoever. Food safety is of paramount importance to us, and we're connecting with our management team at the Citi Field Shake Shack now to discuss further and find out more."

And if eating those burgers turns you into a highlight reel fielder, buy 'em for the whole organization, I say.
Maybe the quick weight loss made him more agile.

Mets spokesmen are soooo credible.

I guess the Mets can't bully Sandberg into going along with today's instance of MetSpeak.

Feel bad for Duda, I thought they had some kind of spread
in the clubhouse and they wouldn't have to hit the vendors.

Maybe Sh. Sh. catered the spread.

More on Shake Shack Gate

Shake Shack founder: 'Highly unlikely' burgers poisoned Mets' Lucas Duda, Phillies' Ryne Sandberg

The Case of the Possible Citi Field Shake Shack Food Poisoning may never be solved. But Danny Meyer, who founded the burger chain, says it may not have been his burgers that gave Mets first baseman Lucas Duda and Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg food poisoning after they blamed it on bad meat.

"It's highly unlikely," he told The Post. "If you're in a restaurant and one person says they got food poisoning from fish, you can say, 'Well, that was probably one bad fish.' But with hamburger meat, it's an entire batch. And we haven't heard of one other case of food poisoning. We don't know for sure a Shake Shake burger made them sick."

Sandberg told reporters he lost six pounds in two days, while Duda -- who a Mets spokesperson said ate at a different Shake Shack other than the one at Citi Field -- was hospitalized.

And if you thought the stories of their illnesses would hurt business at Citi Field, you'd be wrong: The Daily News reported the usual long lines at the establishment on Wednesday night.

"Actually, it encouraged me to come here," 60-year-old Ben Itri told the Daily News. "I figured once they got sick they tried to clean the place and make sure they cleaned all of the germs. So actually after I read that, this was the first place I had to come: that's my theory. We will verify that after the game."

Horse hockey! Who hasn't had a pound of ground beef in the
fridge that's starting to go bad in one spot first and the rest
of the remaining meat is fine?
Secondly, this is a SS spokesperson? Most meat related illness
is related to under-cooking and not bad batches of meat. Some-
thing is rotten with this whole story ... and I doubt it's the beef.

Its probably the only time we will see Ryne Sandberg and Lucas Duda mentioned in the same sentence.

Ben Itri, I'm afraid you've got a problem.

Has anyone even considered the food-sensitivity issue? Perhaps Sandberg merely struggled to get the food out of his tight ass, and Duda... well, transitioning from an all-squirrel meat diet can't be easy on the GI tract, right?

Buying off a big leaguer with a tee shirt is one thing, but a Hall of Famer?

I like how Lucas is one step inside a Mets executive's doorway.

"Try the Shackburger at the Citi Field Shake Shack. First 20 people to get food poisoning
will receive a free Shack Shack T-Shirt. While Supplies last. Friend and relatives of the NY
Mets are not eligible".
