Mitch and Jeff

Two princes of the online Mets world seem to have lost their dads on the same (or consecutive) days.

Hang in there, gentlemen. You're never too old to feel like an orphan, and it's hard to imagine a world without the man who seemed to have built it. But thankfully the world still has youse.

Chad Ochoseis and bfmc (?? -- for a comic you need a funnier screenname, just saying).

Condolences, guys!

I noticed that odd coincidence this morning too. As I said when my mom died a few years ago -- you know, in your heart, you're going to outlive your parents. Doesn't make it any easier when it happens.

My best to both of you and your families.

Re: Mitch and Jeff

I am so sorry, gentlemen. I lost my dad seven years ago and it never fails to hurt when I think of him. Sunday would have been his 86th birthday. His wish was to not live to 80 years old and he didn't. I think he forgot that 80 is the new 70 :)

Hugs and best wishes to you both.

Re: Mitch and Jeff

Hi, all-just wanted to thank everyone for the good thoughts, both here and on FB. It's really valuable to know there's a virtual support system out there in addition to the real-life one.

I lost my dad yesterday; based on what I saw on FB, it looks like that was indeed the same day that bmfc's dad passed. My father had been diagnosed with inoperable esophageal cancer in December and was given 1-3 years to live, but had several bouts of pneumonia that he ultimately couldn't survive. Pneumonia is a fairly peaceful way to go, and my understanding is that he was in absolutely no pain when he died. I mainly wish that I wasn't 2500 miles away when it happened. I got out to my parents' house in Arizona late last night and have been helping my mother with funeral arrangements.

Despite being an absolutely insufferable MFY fan, my father was a good, decent, funny man who was far more intelligent than he gave himself credit for. I'm going to miss him.

Jeff/bmfc, my sympathies to you as well.

Re: Mitch and Jeff

Hi. Thank you for the kind wishes.

Mitch, my deepest condolences.

My father, Murray, was 87. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer one month ago and passed away on Monday morning. He took me to my first Mets game when I was eight and sent me to fantasy camp when was fifty. We went to games together for as long as he was able. It pained him that he couldn't move around well enough to see a game at Citi Field. His last game was commemorated in this column by Greg Prince. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2 ... -the-rain/

We should do June 15 together as a forum. Father's Day. Mets at Padres.

Make it a tribute to our fallen, and Ralph Kiner as well.

Don't alway 'get' and open NBF thread titles.
Condolences, Mets' bros.

I suspect that Father's Day is a tough ticket and that CPF dads will be otherwise occupied. But I'd be all for this.

Re: Mitch and Jeff

My thoughts and prayers are with you both in these difficult times. Take comfort in your memories of the good times and the blessings they brought to your lives.

I lost my father suddenly in January 2013. I still feel his influence and presence in my life on a regular basis. Your beloved fathers shall live on in your hearts.
